FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images For some reason, Tel’s endless potential has hit a wall this season. France Football’s annual award ceremony has long been considered the most prestigious accolade for individual footballers around the globe. Over the past decade, Bayern Munich players have been notoriously snubbed for the subjective award categories. The most egregious example was the 2020 Ballon d’Or being outright cancelled rather than handed to a deserving Robert Lewandowski when Bayern won the sextuple. In 2021, Lewandowski broke Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga goal record and the Ballon d’Or mysteriously went to Lionel Messi, who scored 11 less goals in his final season at FC Barcelona. The 2024 Kopa Trophy was awarded to Barcelona’s teen sensation, Lamine Yamal, after he helped Spain win EURO 2024. Bayern’s own Mathys Tel finished respectably in eighth place, despite scoring three more goals for his club than Yamal while playing half the minutes.Mathys Tel ranked 8th in the Kopa Trophy pic.twitter.com/XHB7S6O8OD— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 28, 2024While it’s not surprising that Yamal won the award as a Spaniard who plays for a Spanish club, Bayern fans were surprised that Tel earned more votes than Aleksandar Pavlović. Pavlović did earn a spot in the top 25, but fell outside the top 10. Most voters don’t follow other leagues very closely and rely heavily on stats and media hype. Pavlović’s rise didn’t really start until the Rückrunde and earned more yellow cards than goals and assists.Pavlović will have a much better ranking in next year’s voting, but it’d be shocking to see anyone besides Yamal win the award for the next few years.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 dismantling of VfL Bochum, plus some talk about why Max Eberl could be on his way to losing the fan base? 68th Ballon D’Or Photocall At Theatre Du Chatelet In Paris Photo by Marc Piasecki/WireImage Bayern Munich brought home one award... Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was in Paris to pick up the Gerd Müller trophy, which was presented to him by club legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “It’s a privilege to be picking up the Gerd Müller trophy. He was both a club legend and a football legend. So it’s special because it means so much to Bayern. I’m picking up the trophy, but we all earned it together,” Kane told DAZN (via DW Sports and @iMiaSanMia). Ü

Well deserved, @HKane! #BallonDor #MiaSanMia #FCBayern pic.twitter.com/9JNE8TEJVt— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) October 28, 2024Kane actually was a co-winner of the award with Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, who did not attend the ceremony.“It was his personal decision not to be here. We both had a very good season and, like me, he scored 52 goals. It’s a big honour to win this award. You have to ask him why he wasn’t there, but for me it’s an honour to be here tonight in any case,” said Kane. While he surely appreciated winning that award, the Englishman would be lying if he said he did not still have his eyes on the Ballon d’Or. “I think so, yeah. The most important thing is to continue what I’m doing, to continue working hard and scoring goals - to help the team and push FC Bayern Munich to the top level. We have a great squad. I’ll try to help the team by scoring goals to win the big trophies. And hopefully this time next year there will be a different conversation,” said Kane, who finished 10th in the voting. UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3Germany v The Netherlands Photo by ANP via Getty Images Bayern Munich will take any break it can get... According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s midweek DFB-Pokal match against Mainz 05 might be a little less of a challenge than previous anticipated.Striker Jonathan Burkardt is our for Mainz 05, while Nadiem Amiri’s status is in doubt: Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt is out of Wednesday’s cup game against Bayern with a muscle injury. Midfielder Nadiem Amiri is a doubt for the game.Bayern Munich picked up a 5-0 win over VfL Bochum on Sunday, but the squad has been up-and-down of late working under coach Vincent Kompany. What the team needs most is a chance to build up some on-field chemistry and an opportunity to establish some momentum. A banged up group of Mainz 05 players might help give the Bavarians the chance to do just that. Atalanta Bergamo - Bayer 04 Leverkusen Photo by Federico Gambarini/picture alliance via Getty Images Who is ready for another 10 months of Wirtz rumors? Bayern Munich’s long standing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has long been one of the most open secrets in german football. But so is Leverkusen’s refusal to sell players to Bayern Munich. While even clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Lawn ballsport Leipzig and VFB Stuttgart have lost key players to the Bavarian giants in the past decade, Bayer Leverkusen have not succumbed to losing a player from their senior team in a permanent transfer to Bayern since center back Lúcio’s move back in 2004.Ergo, the Rekordmeister’s inevitable move for Wirtz, to sign their first player from the Leverkusen first team since O Cavalo, will be made that much more difficult by Bayer Leverkusen’s stubborn refusal to sell. Nor has this this resolve dissolved over time, as exemplified by recent quotes from Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro:“It is, of course, self-evident that we do not want to strengthen direct competitors in our own league with top players,” Carro explained, as captured by Florian Plettenberg. “I also said that directly to [recent Bayern target] Jonathan Tah. I understand if you want to leave, but I would have preferred any club other than one in Germany.”Though Carro does not mention Bayern by name, it is not difficult to read between the lines. Bayern will face a tough fight in convincing Florian Wirtz to join them, as big clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City are also reportedly in the fray for the player’s signature. But the fight to convince Bayer Leverkusen to let Wirtz join Bayern promises to be even more difficult, if not impossible.

VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern Munchen - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images Sometimes you just blink and you’re 5 goals behind, you know? Happens to the best of us. Having dismissed head coach Peter Zeidler following a run of just one point in seven games, VfL Bochum left interim head coach Markus Feldhoff with an unforgiving assignment: encouraging a group of demoralized players and getting them ready to face Bayern Munich — within a week.In light of the circumstances, the friendly relationship between the two clubs was never going to save Die Blauen. The subsequent 0-5 loss to the Bavarian giants was therefore not unexpected, but the performance allowed for some positivity. Feldhoff weighed in after the match and tried to pick out the positives.“We showed great resistance in the first half and had that huge chance to go ahead. That would’ve given us a huge boost,” Feldhoff said in remarks captured by FCBayern.com. “What we can’t allow to happen is that we concede two goals from set pieces. We defended well in open play. We know you can end up losing 5-0 to Bayern. They have huge quality.”Defender Maximilian Wittek echoed the same thoughts, including the emphasis on the one golden chance Bochum created: “We had a decent game today, especially in the first half, and made things tough for Bayern. We then went behind through two set pieces. We’d had a huge chance before that, could’ve even gone ahead, and the game would’ve looked different. In the end, Bayern showed their quality. The three goals in the second half all went in the corners. You know what to expect when you play against Bayern. You also have to say that Bayern’s game during the week didn’t help us.”The goal-scoring chance in question fell to forward Moritz Broschinski, who just failed to squeeze the ball past the line. But his comments revealed that the build up to this chance was far from just a case of luck:“We came up with a clear plan during the week. My chance was exactly what we wanted. I thought the ball was in, but then Min-jae Kim came in and cleared. We fought, threw all we had. We’ll find some luck soon.”That luck will need to come soon. Though their performance was at times brave against Bayern, they are now left with just 1 point after 8 games with a -15 goal difference and a 4 point chasm between themselves and FC Saint Pauli in the relegation playoff. Bayern will certainly hope that their friends will find a way to pull themselves together and earn the moniker Die Unabsteigbaren (the unrelegatables) yet again this season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 dismantling of VfL Bochum, plus some talk about why Max Eberl could be on his way to losing the fan base? FC Barcelona v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD3 Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images The Bavarians could use a lift. Jamal Musiala’s Bayern Munich season is starting to take flight. The sparkling creator had a deft headed goal and one of the smoothest assists you’ll ever see for teammate Harry Kane in Bayern’s 5-0 trouncing of VfL Bochum on Sunday. The match marked his first start since he was sidelined with a hip injury in early October. And locking down the 21-year-old will be one of the Bavarians’ top priorities this season.“The fact that Jamal is an exceptional player is also the reason why we want to extend his contract and make him the new face of FC Bayern,” said Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl after the game in remarks captured by Sky (via @iMiaSanMia). “He’s an exceptional player with exceptional intuition when he goes into dribbling. And of course, a player like that makes others better.”Bayern could use a player to elevate everyone around him on the pitch — and Musiala’s recovery is a welcome development.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 dismantling of VfL Bochum, plus some talk about why Max Eberl could be on his way to losing the fan base? VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern Munchen - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images Bayern Munich took care of business vs. VfL Bochum.... Die Folgen: Bayern’s 5-0 win over Bochum (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich took care of business against VfL Bochum by rolling to a 5-0 victory in the Bundesliga. It was not a fluid start for the Bavarians, but eventually Vincent Kompany’s team overwhelmed the home side for an easy victory. Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s take a look at the starting XI: #FCBayern #MiaSanMia I #BOCFCB pic.twitter.com/iO9E0p7olr— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) October 27, 2024We knew there would be some changes, but the continued inclusion of Kingsley Coman over Leroy Sané is starting to become...interesting. That also put Serge Gnabry on the bench as well. Despite not being in the best form of late, Michael Olise still got the nod for the XI, while Jamal Musiala took over for Thomas Müller. As expected, Bayern Munich was dominant early. One of the interesting aspects of Bayern Munich’s possession was Coman playing wider than Davies with the left-back sneaking in more inside to make runs forward. In the 8th minute Kim Min-jae got smoked over the top due to the high-line (again), Manuel Neuer made a poor decision (again), but Min-Jae made a great recovery run to stop a goal. That was...scary, but not wholly unexpected. Against a better team, it would have been an early deficit. In the 16th minute, Olise showed us once again why his talent has Kompany and Bayern Munich so enamored. The Frenchman took a silky smooth free kick that had zero chance of being saved. What a shot!In the 23rd minute Bayern Munich’s backline continue its up-and-down play as VfL Bochum’s Moritz Broschinski almost beat Dayot Upamecano.Bayern Munich shook off that scare in the 26th minute with another set-piece goal as Joshua Kimmich lofted in a free kick which found back Musiala’s head. The attacking midfielder deftly flicked it backward for a 2-0 lead. Great work from Kimmich and Musiala! In the 31st minute, Musiala slid a terrific pass through to Coman, but the Frenchman just couldn’t corral it. Coman’s performances continue to be underwhelming for the most part (continue reading though, he did make up for it). It just feels like everyone (except maybe Kompany) in this relationship knows it is time to move on. In the 41st minute Coman stumbled out of nowhere when he was snipered on the pitch. Let’s just say the players, coaches, and front office are not the only club entities who should be called into question these days: I think it’s time to put that former Wolfsburg groundskeeper on #FraudWatch pic.twitter.com/QOywbtAnhP— The BFW Guy (@TheBarrelBlog) October 27, 2024By halftime, it was clear that Bayern Munich was dominant, but also that the Bavarians were having a lot of trouble generating scoring opportunities. It was another 45 minutes where it felt like the team did not know how to get Harry Kane involved in the final third. Thankfully, the second half would relieve at least a little of that concern. In the 57th minute, Kane got right with a banger of a goal where he rocketed a shot past VfL Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes. At that point, the game was effectively over and Kompany could start liberally subbing players to keep things fresh. In the 65th minute, one of those subs — Sané — scored the best goal of the match as he battled through some physical play, cut in from the right side to unleash a curler from outside the box that was perfectly place. What a goal!In the 71st minute, Coman (!?) said that anything Sané does, he can do better. Coman cut in to his right and shot it to the far post for another picturesque goal. Goretzka had a great opportunity to make it 6-0 in the 81st minute after a sensational run, but hit his shot right at the goalkeeper. Ditto for Mathys Tel just a minute later. Overall, Bayern Munich did exactly what it needed to do. There were some mistakes — and those absolutely need to be correct — but it was progress. I know…

VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images The youngster hopes this win marks a new beginning. Jamal Musiala contributed to Bayern Munich’s efforts during Die Roten 5-0 crushing of VfL Bochum in the 8th Matchday of the Bundesliga by scoring a header from a free kick from Michael Olise. This victory comes comes just four days after Bayern’s 4-1 drubbing at the hands of FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. After the Bochum match, Musiala reflected about the UCL defeat and its emotional toll: “Nobody wants to lose. It was bitter and it hurt,” said the German attacker in an interviewed captured by @iMiaSanMia.Musiala, however, does not want the bad result to drag down his spirits: “But we have to look ahead, it’s still early in the season. We want to take a step forward with each game and be at our best level when the important games come in the second half of the season.”Although Bochum is not an FC Barcelona caliber team by any means, the victory should help the Bavarians regain a little confidence in their journey to bounce back from the recent mediocre results in the Champions League. One thing is for sure, though, the next opponents are orders of magnitude better than Bochum, and Bayern will have to improve many aspects of their game if they want to achieve any kind of success this season. Three Bayern Munich loanees were in action in European competitions. One started and earned a shutout (spoilers in the article title), one came off the bench in a loss, and one stayed on the bench, but saw his team win. We also saw a lot of action in domestic club play throughout Europe including a first-time goal-scorer in Austria and two assists to Spain. First a trip to Italy on Tuesday saw them go toe-to-toe with Juventus. Nübel only needed one save to earn the shutout, but the Stuttgart attack needed a lot of chances to earn the win. A goal ruled out by VAR and a missed penalty all came before a stoppage time winner that brought all three points back to Germany. Stuttgart hosted Holstein Kiel on Saturday and made it difficult for themselves again. After going up 2-0, they went down a man for the last 30 minutes. Nübel had two saves but conceded a goal in the 84th minute to make it tight going down the stretch. Former Bayern youth and Bavarian Loan Works alum, Jan Fiete Arp, picked up his second yellow card shortly after and the match ended with ten against ten and a 2-1 Stuttgart win. Germany v Australia - Women’s International Friendly Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Australia showed better than England as Germany proves much work is ahead in its transition. Australia came from behind to beat Germany 2-1 in a women’s international friendly that marked the home debut for new Germany national team coach Christian Wück. Here’s how it happened.Changes shake-up GermanyOn Friday a blistering German attack overcame Sarina Wiegman’s England side — in a rematch of the EURO Final two years ago — but the follow-up match reveals a side that is, unsurprisingly, still very much a work in progress.Wück deployed three changes in attack, one in midfield, two in defense, plus a swap at goalkeeper as he continued lineup experimentation. This is a Germany squad truly in transition, as the match’s farewell for EURO 2022 hero Alexandra Popp underscored. The early returns show plenty of promise but also plenty of work ahead.TSG Hoffenheim’s Selina Cerci, starting in attacking midfield, scored a delightful opening goal inside five minutes from an inch-perfect cross from Vivien Endemann. It looked like Germany at its gegenpressing best, relentlessly forcing opponents into errors and pouncing immediately. But as the half wore on, Germany showed that its precision was lacking — and not only in attack but in possession, as sloppy giveaways gave Australia initiative more often than the final statistics would suggest. Fatigue? New players in a new scheme? Or just width — the Germans stretched the field horizontally but the spacing between the players often seemed a touch too much for the passes to reach in time.In any case neither Australia goal (despite the remarkable nature of the first, a long-range shot from Kyra Cooney-Cross) could count as a surprise, and while Germany continued to have some opportunities — Endemann with the best one at the half-hour mark — they cannot feel too the final result is too unjust for the attacking output on display.Punished for falling asleep, waking too lateBy the second half, Germany’s expansive football was flagging and Wück opted for a trio of changes at the hour mark. Even that did not pick up the energy level, which had dropped to a stupor, and the game was heading into a slog up until Australia’s second goal through Clare Hunt in the 77th minute. It cannot be said that the goal was a surprise. Australia was knocking on the door with some regularity by this point, and even the CBS commentator pointed out the set piece — and not for the first time — was a ripe scoring opportunity for the Matildas. Falling behind seemed to finally spark a reaction in the Germans, who tried turning it on in the last 15’ and change. Nicole Anyomi battled in the box to set up Pia-Sophie Wolter for a blazing wide-angle shot that couldn’t beat keeper Mackenzie Arnold. Then long-time Bayern Munich star Lina Magull, now in her first year at Inter Milan, showed her cleverness with a deft flick on to Endemann inside the box in the 90th minute — a chance that once more went begging.Endemann had a bright game, including that early assist, and the goals will surely come. Today was just not her day — nor her team’s.Jersey Swap and Meisterin of the MatchArsenal FC star Caitlin Foord put in an impressive shift for the Matildas, though she did not get on the scoresheet. Foord battled her way through duels from start to finish, made incisive runs that stretched and broke through the German defensive lines, and forced her opponents into repeated fouls in an effort to contain her.As for Germany, who else but the legend? Alexandra Popp graced the field for only 15 minutes but will be remembered forever for her years of contributions to Germany. This was her moment, her day, and she deserves to bask in all the love that was shown to her by teammates and fans at the MSV-Arena. An unforgettable player.Germany play next month against Switzerland (November 29) and Italy (December 2).

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Michael Olise is doing a quality job at Bayern Munich... Like many people, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl looks down at the lineup during each game day and probably wonders when the day will come for Leroy Sané to make his return to the starting XI. As it turns out, the only thing standing between Sané and that moment is the play of Michael Olise. Olise, who scored on a free kick during Bayern Munich’s 5-0 victory over VfL Bochum on Sunday, has performed very well in Bavaria this season.“Leroy is recommending himself, he’s trying to give it his all in training. Michael Olise is a bit ahead in that position at the moment. Leroy is putting pressure, we’ll still need him,” Eberl told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). With Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman also doing fairly well, competition at the wing spot is fierce. It is interesting, however, that Vincent Kompany has not considered playing Sané and Olise together.Maybe at some point, that will be an option. 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Will Bayern Munich be able to hang on to its prized youngster... Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner has made a good impression during his stint with Heidenheim so far. The 18-year-old has five goals and two assists in 11 games across all competitions, but with rumors swirling around Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz, Wanner might be getting a little antsy about his future. With that, a move next summer is not necessarily ruled out per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: A permanent transfer for Paul #Wanner next summer is possible ✔️The 18y/o is currently on loan at Heidenheim, and it is crucial to determine whether he has prospects of significant playing time for FC Bayern in the next two seasons.Bayer 04 Leverkusen remains an option for both him and the club, as revealed. A lot still depends on Florian #Wirtz. At present, it is unlikely that Wanner will be selected by Julian Nagelsmann in November. A call-up appears more realistic for the first half of 2025, as things currently stand. The whole scenario with Jamal Musiala, Wirtz, and Wanner is interesting as all three prefer to play the No. 10 position. While fans might salivate at the prospect of having all three in Bavaria next season, it could be tough for the trio to co-exist on the same roster unless Vincent Kompany can get creative. Stay tuned...Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 dismantling of VfL Bochum, plus some talk about why Max Eberl could be on his way to losing the fan base? FBL-ENG-GER-WOMEN-FRIENDLY Photo by GLYN KIRK/AFP via Getty Images After a tremendous debut win over England, new Germany boss Christian Wück leads the DFB Frauen into another international friendly test. The Germany women’s national team is back in action. After an impressive display against England on Friday in Christian Wück’s introduction as national team head coach, the Germans will face off against Australia. With Bayern Munich’s Lea Schüller out, RB Leipzig’s Giovanna Hoffmann led the line for a formidable German attack that managed four goals against the Lionesses. It was a top-to-bottom impressive performance last time out — featuring also a brace from Bayern full-back Giulia Gwinn and a goal and assist from Bayern winger Klara Bühl. But, like the men’s team, this roster is a little bit Bayern-light...and it is proving to be a wonderful opportunity for the rest of Germany’s talent pool to assert itself. In injury news, it looks like Lyon’s Sara Däbritz, Bayern’s Sydney Lohmann, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Laura Freigang are all out for various injury and illness issues — opening the door again for long-time Bayern star Lina Magull, now at Inter Milan:Kader-Update ℹ️

VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images Jamal Musiala and Bayern Munich head topped the entire Bundesliga this weekend. The seventh matchday of the Bundesliga saw the top teams flex their collective strength atop the table. Two matches showcased multiple goals by both squads and three others produced clean sheets. Despite Harry Kane’s hat trick, Omar Marmoush’s ninth goal on the season maintained his lead for the Golden Boot. This series will recap each team’s performance and rank the Bundesliga teams following each matchday. The ranking system is based on the quality of performances, opponents, and recent matches.1) Bayern MunichPrevious Ranking: 1Bundesliga Results: WWDDW + 5-0 win at VfL BochumAfter the devastating 4-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona, Bayern delivered the most complete performance of the season. Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala scored from set pieces in the first half, while Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, and Kingsley Coman scored in open play in the second half. Sané hadn’t scored a Bundesliga goal in exactly one year and is slowly starting to return to his world class form.2) RB LeipzigPrevious Ranking: 2Bundesliga Results: DDWWW + 3-1 win vs FreiburgAfter conceding its first Bundesliga goal since August, Leipzig stepped on the gas and flew past a solid Freiburg squad. Loïs Openda’s movement continues to unlock the final third for Leipzig without sacrificing numbers forward. Péter Gulácsi subbed off early and his undisclosed injury will be monitored closely.3) Bayer LeverkusenPrevious Ranking: 3Bundesliga Results: WWDDW + 2-2 draw at Werder BremenAfter Victor Boniface scored in the 30th minute, Leverkusen gave back the lead (twice!) and Florian Wirtz’s blast hit the post in the 84th minute rather than putting the game out of reach. Leverkusen only produced five shots on goal, as Leverkusen continues to pay its dues to the football gods for the undefeated 2023/24 season. 4) Union BerlinPrevious Ranking: 7Bundesliga Results: DWLWW + 1-1 draw vs Eintracht FrankfurtIn the 66th minute, Benedict Hollerbach’s breakaway equalized the match. Playing the last 15 minutes up a man, Tim Skarke appeared to win the match with a blast inside the box but was painstakingly overturned by VAR’s offside decision. Union Berlin’s defense continues to earn valuable points against tough competition.5) Eintracht FrankfurtPrevious Ranking: 5Bundesliga Results: WWWDL + 1-1 draw at Union BerlinIn his 300th Bundesliga game, Mario Götze opened the scoring line for Frankfurt. After Thursday’s Europa League win, Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike only combined for a single shot. Once Arthur Theate was handed a red card in the 76th minute, Frankfurt dropped deep to hold on to the point on the road.6) FreiburgPrevious Ranking: 4Bundesliga Results: WWLWW + 3-1 loss at RB LeipzigFreiburg’s impressive pressure earned an opening goal from Ritsu Doan, but then Leipzig locked in and severely limited Freiburg’s chances for the rest of the match. For the next couple months, Freiburg has a favorable schedule and will need to string together wins to stay in the top five.7) Werder BremenPrevious Ranking: 8Bundesliga Results: WLWLW + 2-2 draw vs Bayer LeverkusenIn the 74th minute, Marvin Ducksch snuck behind Jonathan Tah and headed in the 1-1 equalizer. In the 90th minute, Romano Schmid’s shot pinballed through the box and ended in the back of the net. Bremen outshot Leverkusen 8-5 but will be thrilled to earn the late point against the reigning champions.8) StuttgartPrevious Ranking: 10Bundesliga Results: WWDDL + 2-1 win vs Holstein KielDeniz Undav chipped the keeper in the 19th minute and El Bilal Toure blasted the game winner from outside the box in the 61st minute. It was a masterpiece performance until Julian Chabot picked up a second yellow card five minutes later. Stuttgart deserved the win and will only regret not winning by a larger margin.9) Borussia DortmundPrevious Ranking: 6Bundesliga Results: WLWLW + 2-1 loss at AugsburgDortmund hasn’t won consecutive…

VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Mario Hommes/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Bayern straightens itself out in time for an elimination match in the DFB-Pokal. Bayern Munich took all its frustration from a 4-1 loss at FC Barcelona in the Champions League midweek by blasting Bundesliga bottom-feeders VfL Bochum in a 5-0 victory.Starters and substitutes alike hit their stride with goals from a quintet of attackers: Michael Olise (16’), Jamal Musiala (26’), Harry Kane (57’), Leroy Sané (65’), and Kingsley Coman (71’). You got the sense that five goals wasn’t enough as the Bavarians pushed to the final whistle — scrambling after loose balls, getting stuck into every challenge, and tracking back to preserve the clean sheet. It was a needed reset after the Barça defeat and now Bayern can hit the ground running heading into a DFB-Pokal match at Mainz next Wednesday. How do you think the Bayern players did? VfL Bochum - Bayern Munich Photo by David Inderlied/picture alliance via Getty Images Bambi is all grown up and heading in goals. When Jamal Musiala glided past defenders towards the near post on a Bayern Munich free kick near the half-hour mark at VfL Bochum, a headed goal was probably the last thing he — or anyone — was expecting. But Musiala met teammate Joshua Kimmich’s gentle free kick delivery with an equally deft touch, guiding it across keeper Patrick Drewes and into the opposite corner of the net.Musiala has scored with his head before — but that did not stop his teammates from crowding him like it was a celestial event, or his coaches and staff heaping praise. Olise & Musiala pic.twitter.com/xNUglKFg1V— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) October 27, 2024“Of course it’s nice for him because he’s not used [to scoring headers],” said head coach Vincent Kompany after the game (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I think he was good not only because of his goal. He helped us calm the game down. When the opponent presses, it’s always easier with Jamal to get out of the press. It was a complete performance from him.”“He’s not so small. I’m surprised he hasn’t scored more [headers] so far. But of course it’s still surprising because we usually know him with the ball at his feet,” added sporting boss Max Eberl (captured by Bild reporter Michel Schröer, via @iMiaSanMia). Atta way, Jamal!Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 dismantling of VfL Bochum, plus some talk about why Max Eberl could be on his way to losing the fan base? VfL Bochum 1848 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images Bayern Munich delivered a beatdown to VfL Bochum.,.. Bayern Munich midfielder / right-back Konrad Laimer took over for Raphaël Guerreiro at the right-back position and felt good to be back as part of the starting XI.Laimer was part of a backline that included Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, and Alphonso Davies that ultimately kept a clean sheet in front of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Needless to say, Laimer was glad to see his squad respond after a midweek thrashing at the hands of FC Barcelona. “We wanted to make a statement again. It was a very focused and confident performance. In the end, we deserved to win by such a large margin and could have scored one or two more goals. We know that it’s always a difficult away game here. We always have to play our game for 90 minutes, then we will win a lot of games and be successful. That will only happen if we all do it together,” said Laimer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). It is hard to see where Laimer fits in long-term on this squad. If the team can get fully healthy, Laimer looks like a reserve, but until the right-back situation settles, he could continue to get playing time at the position.
