According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich would like Leroy Sané to take a pay cut to remain with the club. Whether or not he would agree to that remains to be seen, but it does look like it would be open to an incentive-laden deal: In order to extend his contract, Bayern would like to reduce Leroy Sané’s base salary. Sané, who currently earns around €20m per year in total (base salary + bonuses) could agree to that, provided he could still reach a similar sum through variables.Sané has been reported to want to stay with Bayern Munich, but clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Liverpool have all been (very) loosely linked to the Germany international. The feeling of all sources involved is that Davies will leave Bayern as a free agent. It will take a ‘miracle’ from Bayern to change the situation. Barca fans — allegedly — hurled insults and derogatory language (clutches pearls) at the bus full of players and club personnel, but that was not all. According to a report from Bild, FC Barcelona fans also threw stones at the bus, which could have resulted in a very dangerous situation. Here is the report from Bild: Previously unknown persons had attacked the team bus as it drove up the Montjuïc mountain to the Olympic Stadium (where Barça is currently playing due to renovation work at the Camp Nou, return planned for early 2025, 105,000 seats in the future).The cowardly attack from behind only came to light after the German record champions returned to Munich.According to BILD information, the Bayern bus was damaged by the stone throwing. A hole was apparently made in a window and damage was caused to the bus driver’s door. Fortunately, no one on the bus was injured!The damage was not made public on the day of the match, only a day later. FC Bayern confirmed the incident when asked by BILD.The Munich team is not letting the stone attack go unpunished: The club immediately reported the incident to UEFA. This means that the European football association will now investigate the incident in Barcelona.Well...not a good look for FC Barcelona fans (not that they care after their team pulled out a dominant 4-1 win). Is this Alphonso Davies’ last season as a Bayern Munich player, or is there even the slightest chance the Canada skipper might agree to stay and extend his contract with the Rekordmeister? The pair of burning questions loom large in the background of the day to day operations for Vincent Kompany’s in-form Bayern side, as the left back’s current contract is set to expire next summer. The club is in a crucial window for figuring out what, exactly, his future will hold, whether it is in Munich, or elsewhere.Per an update from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, despite Davies having a spike of form as a regular starter under Kompany, there have still not been any talks with regards to a possible contract extension. Bayern’s coaching staff and front office have taken notice of his improved form so far this season and they do remain hopeful that a contract extension can be agreed upon, but there is no indication that will happen as of yet.Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Bayern Munich is still open to a deal with Davies, but the Canadian will have to make some concessions: Bayern are still open to extending Alphonso Davies’ contract, but on two conditions: the player has to lower his demands and has to ‘restrain’ his agent Nick Huoseh. The agent has fallen out of favour at Säbener Straße. Uli Hoeneß said during a meeting that Huoseh ‘doesn’t even know that there’s air in the ball.’Bayern’s last offer for Davies was worth €13m fixed plus bonuses per year. Davies and his agent demanded €16m plus bonuses in addition to a €15m signing fee. Real Madrid and Manchester United are interested.Bayern runs the risk of losing Davies on a free transfer next summer in the same sort of situation where they lost defender David Alaba to Real Madrid a few summers ago, though there had been a series of negotiations with the Austrian veteran at the time. For Davies, he could agree to join another club as early as this January since his contract runs out in the summer, so the clock is ticking fast for Bayern. Time will tell whether or not Davies leaves this coming summer or not, but one thing is clear; Bayern does not have too much time left to try to convince him to stay and Max Eberl, Christoph Freund, and the rest of the club’s front office will have to start planning for replacement options. Noussair Mazraoui was Bayern Munich’s starting fullback that can play either side (when fit anyways). Last year, the Moroccan took a picture with some 17-year-old FC Barcelona kid named Adam Aznou which went viral. The now 18-year-old Aznou revealed that the former Ajax defender is one of his biggest supporters on the national team.“Mazraoui is a great person with a big heart,” Aznou recalled (as captured by Twitter account @Lions_talk) He has given me advice and helped me a lot. I was a bit shy, haha, but he encouraged me and supported me. I was really happy to see him on the national team.”Mazraoui has since been sold to Manchester United and Aznou is starting to appear on the bench a lot and although he hasn’t gotten a lot of playing time as of yet, his aim is to fight for a starting place and improve his physique: “I want to have minutes with the first team and compete for a spot in the team, and I would also like to improve a bit physically.”

FC Barcelona v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD3 Photo by Alex Caparros - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images “Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard” — Vincent Kompany (maybe) As fans seek to move on from Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League loss to FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich executives might be having a harder time reconciling what happened. According to a report, there is internal strife at Bayern Munich, as “debate” is heating up among the “higher-ups” over Vincent Kompany’s high-line. Some folks do not think the team should continue this way, while Max Eberl is not ready to hammer the coach. This is how @iMiaSanMia captured the report from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk: There was debate within the club’s higher-ups over Vincent Kompany’s risky style of play, particularly in the big international games. They’re saying that things cannot continue like this. Max Eberl, meanwhile, is defending Kompany as he was the one that brought him in.While it is fair to ask if the coach has the right personnel to run this style of play — and also if the coach should change his ways to accommodate the talent that he does have — it is far too early for anyone to start sounding the “Uh-oh Alarm” on Kompany’s coaching career in Munich. While he did have an impressive start to the season (albeit against inferior teams), this job was always going to be a learning experience for Kompany. Realistically, should anyone have expected a manager who just guided Burnley back into relegation to step right into Bayern Munich — arguably a top six or seven job in the world — and take the world by storm? It was always going to be unrealistic to think immediate success was a given. Kompany needs to figure out the complexities of the job at this level and how to best navigate through the treacherous terrain of his new gig. And yes, part of the reason things are probably a little heated right now is because Hansi Flick — who Eberl (if you believe reports) made the final decision to pass on — was the brains behind FC Barcelona’s battering of the Bavarians. Curiously, stories came out this week where Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that he and Uli Hoeneß did not have a hand in hiring Kompany. “Uli Hoeneß and I never actively interfered in the search for a coach. Max is on the board and Christoph Freund is the sporting director — we did not want to take on a dominant or even operational role,” said Rummenigge (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).Later, a report from Spain emerged indicating that Flick had doubt about taking the Bayern Munich job and that is why he passed on it — but it was wrong. This is what Barca Universal put out based on a story it misunderstood from Bild: Bayern Münich tried to bring Hansi Flick back this summer, but the manager had doubts. He asked for a short term contract, but the German club wanted a long term deal. They went for Kompany instead.However, Abendzeitung journalist Victor Catalina leapt into the fray to explain the real story from Bild: That’s not what the report says. According to @altobelli13, Flick would’ve been very happy to return to Bayern on a short-term deal after positive talks with Hoeneß and Rummenigge and even started to plan the squad and preseason. It was Eberl who wanted a fresh start with Kompany.In retrospect — and if true — that sure seems to back up Rummenigge’s assertion that Kompany was an “Eberl/Freund Production” and that the “old guard” let the “new world order” make this call on its own.What does it all mean? Well, board-level bickering aside, fans will need to be patient. Kompany is not going to be a conquering hero in year one. Heck, he might never be a coach, who leads the club to Champions League glory. There is only one way to find out, though, and that is to let it all play out — until Kompany either proves himself or the powers that be once again decide new leadership is needed. Die Folgen: Bayern’s 4-1 loss to Barça (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona squared off in the Champions League and this was not a game for the faint of heart. Neither coach backed down from their aggressive tactics, which left fans on the edge of their respective seats for much of the match. In the end, though, Barça out-classed Bayern Munich for a 4-1 win. Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s open up with Vincent Kompany’s starting XI:

The surprise, of course, was the status of Jamal Musiala. After partaking in consecutive days of team training, it was assumed that the youngster would be ready to start the match against FC Barcelona. Instead, Thomas Müller got the nod. Less than a minute into the game, we found out who would falter first in the battle of the high-lines. Kim Min-jae got over-aggressive in trying to battle Robert Lewandowski in the build-up as the striker was doing his best to hold play up. That set off a chain of bad positioning, which led to Joshua Kimmich being left flat-footed as a last line of defense against a streaking Raphinha. It did not end well for Bayern Munich, as Raphinha timed his run perfectly, went in all alone, and had no one but Manuel Neuer to beat for a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game. While the chain of events started with Min-jae, it was a complete breakdown of the team’s structure and defense...all six players at the back (four defenders, two central midfielders) had a hand in that one. In the eighth minute, Harry Kane was “in” on FC Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, but took just a bit too big of a touch, which allowed Peña to make a play on the ball. Just about a minute later, Thomas Müller sent in a beautiful cross, which Kane headed into the net, but the striker sloppily allowed himself to drift just offside. It was an unnecessary offside and the second consecutive play in which a Kane error prevented a goal. That was NOT the start that Kane was looking for, but he would make up for it in the 18th minute when Serge Gnabry sent in a cross — only this time, Kane stayed onside and put the ball into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1. Neither Hansi Flick nor Vincent Kompany blinked with tactics, which made for a very nervy match. That frantic style of play would go on, with each team showing how threatening it could look, and that chaos would pay off for FC Barcelona. An aerial ball into Fermín López led to a duel between López and Min-jae. López gave the bigger, stronger center-back a subtle nudge, Min-jae headed the ball backward into no man’s land, which caused Manuel Neuer to storm out of his net. López then got to the ball, poked it over to Lewandowski, who was not going to miss an open net. Barca took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute and Min-jae’s nightmare first half got worse. Just nine minutes later, Marc Casadó’s diagonal switch to a (once again) streaking Raphinha saw the FC Barcelona speedster smoke Raphaël Guerreiro and take advantage of a very tentative Dayot Upamecano to make it 3-1. Upamecano, who was really high up the pitch and left Guerreiro isolated, had a terrific effort to get to the spot and just didn’t go for the tackle. Weird. It was almost as if he pulled up at the last second. Regardless, his positioning prior to that was the bigger concern because there is no evidence that Guerreiro could contain Raphinha.What an absolute debacle of a first half from the backline. Just terrible...In fairness, though, Kane’s uncharacteristic off-touch and offside would have both likely led to goals. It could have been tied at 3-3. As they say, though, coulda, woulda, shoulda.The second half did not get any better for Bayern…
