Federal Reserve Chairman Powell said on Wednesday that "people use Bitcoin as a speculative asset. It's like gold—it's just virtual and digital", "it's not a competitor for the dollar. It's really a competitor for gold". He said that due to the high volatility of Bitcoin, it is not used as a major payment method or a reliable means of storing value. When asked about potential national Bitcoin reserves, Powell emphasized that the Fed's goal is to keep the banking system safe and sound, and cryptocurrencies should not threaten the health of the banking system.
