Jay Powell, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, stated in a conversation with Andrew Ross Sorkin that the September rate cut was intended to "send a strong signal" indicating that the Federal Reserve would provide support if the labor market continues to weaken. He also noted that the economy has been performing strongly, even better than expected in September.
