The Dencun hard fork activation block arrived on Mar. 13, 2024, at approximately 13:56 UTC.
On All Core Devs Call 160, Ethereum core developers discussed the potential scope for the upcoming Cancun hard fork. Client teams agreed to include the following EIPs in the upgrade:
- EIP-1153: Transient storage opcodes - Provides opcodes for accessing a temporary storage area that is separate from the main Ethereum state.
- EIP-6475: SSZ Optional - Introduces Simple Serialize (SSZ) as an optional encoding scheme for Ethereum.
- EIP-4844: Shard Blob Transactions - Introduces a new transaction format for "blob-carrying transactions" which contain a large amount of data that cannot be accessed by EVM execution, but whose commitment can be accessed.
- EIP-6780: SELFDESTRUCT only in same transaction - Restricts the use of the SELFDESTRUCT opcode to the same transaction.
EIP-4788 and EIP-6493 were moved to the Considered for Inclusion (CFI) status and the EVM Object Format (EOF) EIPs were removed from CFI, with conversations about prioritizing them for the Prague upgrade. The team has not yet suggested a timeline for the upgrade.

The Mainnet 10 upgrade has been activated successfully, and block production has resumed on the Akash Network.
The Akash Mainnet 10 upgrade is scheduled to activate at block 15,414,427, which is expected to arrive on Mar. 13, 2024, at approximately 17:00 UTC, pending successful voting and execution of Proposal 249.
The Akash Mainnet 10 upgrade will upgrade the network to v0.32.0 and implement the following changes:
- Remove checking if provider has active leases during provider update transactions. This check was iterating through all existing leases on the network causing gas, and thus transaction fees, to go to up to 3AKT which is above the desired values. Initial intention of the check was to prevent provider changing attributes that is in use by active leases. Akash Network team will reintroduce check by adding secondary indexes in future network upgrades.
- Remove secondary index for market store which was never used
- Changes above are updating consensus version of market store from 4 to 5
