Gm Folks!☕ Interesting thread, reading the different perspectives and ideas around decentralized vs distributed. I do like @holyshibby point, about "agent-centricity" being a big part in the conversation

Distributed systems are widely adopted and used in most modern software applications. Social media apps, video streaming services, e-commerce sites, and more are all based on distributed systems. Centralized systems naturally evolve into distributed systems to handle scalability. But ownership (let's say that to make it clear) is central.
But if I say: Holochain is decentralized, it is implicitly understood that it is also distributed. A decentralized thing (so that does not have a central "property") is obviously also distributed
I would say that agent-centricity is the more interesting thing to focus on when discussing what makes hc different. Cpt Velveteen alluded to it in their first reply when they mentioned consensus.
That image above doesn't really add much value in my opinion. Decentralised and distributed aren't in opposition and both qualities can be present at the same time. As far as I'm concerned, centralisation is concerned with control/ownership/responsibility, whereas distribution is more concerned with locality.
Yeah and then there's the still centralized relays and what not that Blockchain depends on like this picture shows.

Holochain apps don’t need a distributed exchange. There’s no coin or token for apps to run. Can you be more specific about your question?
As far as linking to blockchain networks; the hApp maker builds that into their code. The IOEN network does that. Proof of energy is stored on Holochain, the app then mints a token on a blockchain (sorry don’t remember which one) and links the two so the data stays connected.
I have a question: so if apps are build on Holochain does it need it own dex build on it and how does interoperability works with ethereum for example?

No need to explain Holochain :) but thnx. In my opinion its not the same tho 😆 i was mostly wondering why you (and others) use the term decentralized instead of distributed. Maybe some other folks in here can answer this aswell in their way. @NATHANLENAE does Holochain see an important key difference here? Of do you also think its the same cookie?

Better in efficiency. What is better for the planet also. I could even say that it's still legit to run a global consensus just to claim that this value is this value and forever will be this value, but first of all, you can have the same with Holochain (no one knows if one of the happs/chains will be even bigger than the BTC user base for example or Google or whatever) and second its just more limited. You can achieve the same with holochain and much more and it's much easier to pack.
