Dibru-Saikhowa National Park

▪️ Dibru-Saikhowa is a National Park as well as a Biosphere Reserve situated in the south bank of the river Brahmaputra in Assam.

▪️ The forest type of Dibru-Saikhowa comprises semi-evergreen forests, deciduous forests, littoral and swamp forests and patches of wet evergreen forests.

▪️ It is the largest swamp forest in north-eastern India.

▪️ It is an identified Important Bird Area (IBA), notified by the Birdlife International. It is most famous for the rare white-winged wood ducks as well as feral horses.

▪️ Mammals found in the Park include Tiger, Elephant, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Bears, Small Indian Civet, Squirrels, Gangetic Dolphin, Hoolock Gibbon, etc.

▪️ Maguri Motapung wetland is a part of the Reserve.

ARAL SEA

▪️It is a saltwater body in Central Asia & an Endorheic lake lying between Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan.

• The name translates as Sea of Islands (Archipelago in Turkic languages), referring to over 1,100 islands that once dotted its water.

▪️Basin Countries: Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan,Uzbekistan.

▪️Primary Inflows: Syr Darya & groundwater (previously the Amu Darya)

▪️It is considered as an example of Ecosystem Collapse, It have been nearly destroyed, not least because of the much higher salinity.

विषय विवरण (Topic Description):
देश के प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र यानि United Nations की desertification, land degradation और drought पर एक हाई लेवल बैठक को संबोधित किया। वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के जरिए प्रधानमंत्री ने मरुस्थलीकरण-भूमि क्षरण और सूखे के मुद्दे को प्रमुखता से उठाया। उन्होंने कहा कि इस समस्याओं के प्रति वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण को बढ़ावा देने के लिए भारत में उत्कृष्टता केंद्र स्थापित किए जा रहे हैं। मरुस्थलीकरण, भूमि क्षरण, सूखे पर वर्चुअल संवाद में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा कि भारत में हमने हमेशा भूमि को महत्व दिया है। भारत ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मंचों पर भूमि क्षरण के मुद्दों को उजागर करने का बीड़ा उठाया है। उन्होंने कहा कि ये दुख की बात है कि भूमि क्षरण आज दुनिया के दो तिहाई हिस्से को प्रभावित करता है। अगर इसे अनियंत्रित छोड़ दिया गया तो यह हमारे समाजों, अर्थव्यवस्थाओं, खाद्य सुरक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, सुरक्षा और जीवन की गुणवत्ता की नींव को ही नष्ट कर देगा। भारत में पिछले 10 साल में लगभग 30 लाख हेक्टेयर वन क्षेत्र जोड़ा गया है। इसने संयुक्त वन क्षेत्र को देश के कुल क्षेत्रफल के लगभग 1/4 भाग तक बढ़ा दिया है। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि हम भूमि क्षरण तटस्थता की अपनी राष्ट्रीय प्रतिबद्धता को प्राप्त करने की राह पर हैं। हम 2030 तक 26 मिलियन हेक्टेयर खराब भूमि को बहाल करने की दिशा में भी काम कर रहे हैं। यह 2.5 -3 बिलियन टन CO2 के बराबर.. अतिरिक्त कार्बन सिंक को प्राप्त करने की भारत की प्रतिबद्धता में योगदान देगा।
