🇷🇺 President Vladimir Putin welcomed eight of his people, including murderer Vadim Krasikov, who was serving a life sentence in Germany (pictured in a cap). Putin promised they would all receive state awards.
🇺🇸 President Joe Biden welcomed three of his people, including WSJ journalist Evan Gershkovich (pictured hugging his mother).
🇩🇪Chancellor Olaf Scholz met a plane with 12 released Russian opposition and anti-war activists, but none of them disembarked. There was no public joyful meeting with Scholz and supporters, but photos of the activists were published by colleagues.
Another released person, a German citizen pardoned by 🇧🇾 President Alexander Lukashenko, is also free, but there is no information about him.
A total of 24 people participated in the exchange.
⚰️ Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader, was supposed to participate in this exchange but died in a colony in February for unknown reasons. Navalny's supporters believe he was killed on Putin's orders to prevent his main Russian opponent from being free.

🔁 🇷🇺 🇺🇸 Russia is releasing Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan as part of a major prisoner swap with the US, according to people familiar with the situation.
The men, jailed in Russia on espionage charges they and the US deny, are en route to destinations outside of Russia. The US and its allies will return prisoners to Russia that they hold under the deal, the people said, asking for anonymity to discuss matters that aren’t yet public.
Further details of the exchange weren’t immediately available. The US has been in talks for years to achieve the release of the two, which the State Department has designated wrongly detained.

🦈 🇧🇷 Sharks living off the coast of Brazil have tested positive for… cocaine. The concentration of the drug in their bodies was 100 times higher than that of other marine creatures, according to a study by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation.
13 sharpnose sharks, caught in Brazilian waters and purchased from local fishermen between September 2021 and August 2023, were examined. This species, listed as critically endangered, was chosen for testing because its habitat is close to the shore.
No one yet knows how the sharks obtained so much cocaine. According to one theory, it could be related to the activities of illegal drug labs that dump their waste into the open sea.
