💢 Idiom

امروز می خوام اصطلاح downer رو بهتون معرفی کنم که slang محسوب میشه . این اصطلاح یعنی هر “اتفاق” یا “چیزی” که باعث بشه حالت افسردگی و  نا امیدی بهتون دست بده به عبارتی باعث ایجاد حالت دپرسینگ یا بهتر بگم “ضد حال” تو شما بشه

🔸A: I can’t believe the concert was cancelled.
🔸B: Yeah what a downer

🔸نمی تونم باور کنم که کنسرت کنسل شده.
🔸 اره ، عجب ضد حالی بود یا خیلی ضد حال بود

🔸A : damn it , he stole my car
🔸B : ohhh , it’s a real downer

🔸لعنتی ، اون ماشینمو  دزدید
🔸 اه ! واقعا ضد حاله ! یا خیلی ضد حاله

🔸I stopped watching the news because it’s always such a downer
🔸من تماشای اخبار رو منع کردم چون همیشه خبرهاش دپرس کننده ست ضد حاله

🔸C’mon, Gina, why can’t you go out with us? You’re really such a downer
🔸دست بردار گینا ! چرا نمی تونی با ما بری بیرون ؟ تو واقعا ادم ضد حالی هستی !

👈نکته : c’mon همون شکل کوتاه شده ی come on هست

🔸He’s on a downer today
🔸اون امروز دپرسه

💢Idiom of the Day
⭕️under the table

👉Meaning:If something is done under the table, it's done secretly, usually because it's illegal or unethical.

✴️For example : 👇👇

🔸If I do any overtime, can you pay me under the table so I won't have pay tax on it.

🔸If you make under-the-table payments to customs officials, you can get goods through the port without having them inspected.

‼️Note: If this idiom is used to qualify a noun or a noun phrase, hyphens must be used, as in "under-the-table payments".

👉Origin: Probably related to the fact that if a package or an envelope is passed under a table, other people cannot easily see what's going on.

💢Grammar
⭕️The difference between " To"  & "For"

👉When to use "to":

‼️Use "to" when there is some kind of transfer happening or something is being moved from one place to another. "To" expresses direction.

👉Examples :

📒"We went from the restaurant to the party."
📒"Talk to your teacher and get more information about the exam."
📒"I go to the office every morning at 9am."
📒"He sold his car to me for $5,000."

👉When to use "for":

‼️Use "for" when something is being done to benefit something or someone else.

‼️Use "for" when you are trying to express purpose or the reason that something is happening

👉Examples:

📒"I bought this gift for you."
📒"He runs for his health."
📒"Bring this tea upstairs for your grandmother."
📒"Buckle up for safety."

👉 Now compare both:

📒"My friend brought lunch to me." (My friend physically carried the lunch and delivered it to me)

versus

📒"My friend brought lunch for me." (My friend paid for my lunch because he wanted to do something nice for me)

📒"I made a quick phone call to my mom." (I called with the intention of speaking with my mom)

versus

📒"I made a quick phone call for my mom." (My mom wasn't able to make the call so I made the call for her)
