❗️Zelensky claimed that, according to Witkoff, Moscow has for the first time hinted it might be open to a first step toward ending the conflict — a ceasefire.

He said that Russia is trying to influence public opinion in America before the Trump–Putin meeting, showing itself as winning and Ukraine as losing.

He also said Putin mainly wants a photo opportunity with Trump, but that any talks without Ukraine at the table won’t be taken seriously.

PS - The whole world knows who’s trying to influence opinions and who’s actually winning.

❗An agent of the Ukrainian special services who planned the assassination of a high-ranking military officer of the Russian Ministry of Defense has been detained by the FSB.

The man was preparing a terrorist attack in the Moscow region. He made a homemade explosive device and disguised it in a car purchased with money from his handlers. Then this car, loaded with more than 60 kg of explosives, was supposed to be parked in a designated place and detonated at the moment a Russian military officer passed nearby.

❗️Ukrainian Ground Forces report that Russia has struck the training ground of one of their units

"Last night, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on the territory of one of the training units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The personnel were properly alerted immediately after the "Missile Danger" signal was received. Despite the safety measures taken, while moving to equipped shelters and hideouts, a group of servicemen entered the area affected by cluster munitions. One person is known to have died and 11 were wounded with varying degrees of severity. Another 12 servicemen sought medical help complaining of acoustic trauma and acute stress. Relevant emergency services are working on site. The wounded are being promptly provided with all necessary medical assistance."

❗️2 Chinese ships collide near Huangyan Island in the South China Sea when attempting to intimidate a Philippine vessel on August 11.

The tension likely led to a mistake by the crew of the PLA Navy Type 052DG missile destroyer "Guilin," which tried at full speed to simply crush the Philippine intruding vessel but instead rammed a fellow ship - a China Coast Guard vessel with hull number 3104.

As a result, the ship's bow was seriously damaged, but it remained afloat. There is no information about the destroyer.

The tolerant Filipinos offered medical assistance to the injured crew, trying to reduce the tension and pretending that we have nothing to do with it here.

❗️Mr Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce the meeting’s location — a former Russian territory.

The pair will meet in the US state of Alaska, sold by Russia more than 158 years ago.

Putin aide Yury Ushakov said the location was logical, stating the interests of both nations “converged” in the northern state.

"So it does make sense if our delegation simply crosses the Bering Strait and if such an important and expected meeting between the two leaders takes place specifically in Alaska," he said.

"We expect this process will not be simple, but we will be engaged in it actively and consistently."

Russia's lasting influence in Alaska 

Russian influence still endures in parts of the remote north-western state, which extends to just a few kilometres from the Russian border.

The Russian empire sold the territory to Washington for $US7.2 million ($11.04 million) in 1867 — equal to about $US156.3 million ($239.64 million) in today’s currency.
