From Abu Hurairah -RadhiAllaahu anhu- who said:
The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to give good news to his Companions with the arrival of Ramadan, he would say:
«قد جاءكم شهر رمضان شهرٌ مبارك ، كتب الله عليكم صيامه ،فيه تفتح أبواب الجنة وتغلق فيه أبواب الجحيم ، وتغل فيه الشياطين ، فيه ليلةٌ خيرٌ من ألف شهر ، من حُرِمَ خيرها فقد حُرِم».
‘Indeed the month of Ramadan has arrived, a blessed month. Allaah has prescribed fasting for you. In this month the doors of Paradise are opened and the doors of hell are closed. The devils are shackled. In Ramadan there is a night better than a thousand months, whoever is prohibited from the good in that night then indeed he has been prohibited from good.’

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali said:
‘Some of the scholars said: This hadeeth is a foundation for some people congratulating others with the month of Ramadan.
How can one not give good news to the believer with the doors of Paradise opening.
How can one not give good news to the sinful that the doors of the Hell fire have been closed.
How can one not give good news to the intelligent one with that the devils are shackled.
Where can this time period be compared to any other time.’

Abu Umaamah (رضي االله عنه) reported that the Prophet (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم) said,
“Allaah’s Most Great Name is in three soorahs in the Qur’aan, in Soorat Al-Baqarah and in Aal-’Imraan and in Soorat Taha.”
Al-Qaasim bin ‘Abdur-Rahmaan, one of the narrators of this hadeeth, searched the Qur’aan and found
Aaytul-Kursi in Soorat Al-Baqarah (2:255):
[ االلهُ لا إله إلاَّ ُ هوَ الحَيُّ القَيُّوم ]
And in Soorat Aal-’Imraan (3:2):
[ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ]
And in Soorat Taha (20:111)
[ وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ الْقَيُّومِ ]
Reported by al-Haakim, Ibn Maajah, at-Tabarani, at-Tahaawi, and others. Shaykh al-Albaani authenticated its isnaad (As-Silsilah As-Saheeha), vol. 2, no. 746.

*Receive a good deed for every believing man and woman*
*Explained by Shaykh Abdur Razzaq Al Badr*
Shaykh Abdur Razzaq: The statement of the Prophet عليه الصلاة والسلام:
من استغفر للمسلمين والمسلمات كان له بكل واحد منهم حسنة
Whoever seeks forgiveness for the male and female Muslims, he will receive for himself a good deed for each and every one of them.
Look! Whoever seeks forgiveness for the male Muslims and the female Muslims, he will receive for himself a good deed for each and every one of them. Do you know how many good deeds you will receive if you say in your supplication?!:
اللَّهُمَّ اغفِر لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ والْمُسْلِمَاتِ وَالمُؤمِنِينَ وَالمُؤمِنَاتِ، الأَحيَاءِ مِنهُم وَالأَموَاتِ
O Allah, forgive the male and female Muslims, and the male and female believers, the living and the deceased.
A phrase which is not even one line; how many good deeds will you receive?! Count from Adam until Allah inherits the earth and all those upon it. You will receive a good deed for every Muslim; millions of good deeds. Then you supplicate for them to have guidance, firmness, assistance, success, and safety from trials and tribulations. If this supplication comes from your heart this is proof of the soundness of your heart and conscience for the welfare of your Muslim brother.
Translator’s note: Below is another wording of the Hadith which has been declared Hassan by Shaykh Al Albani
من استغفر للمؤمنين و للمؤمنات كتب الله له بكل مؤمن و مؤمنة حسنة
‘Whoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and believing women, Allah writes a good deed for him for every believing man and woman.’

Al-Bayhaqi quoted a story of our Shaykh al-Haakim Abu Abdullaah -Rahimullaah- who was afflicted with ulcers on his face, and he had tried a number of treatments but they did not go away, and it remained like that for nearly a year.
He then asked the teacher, Imam Abu Uthmaan as-Sabooni to make Dua’ for him in one of his gatherings on Friday, so he made Dua’ and many of the people with him said Ameen. When it came to the next Juma’ a woman came to the gathering and left a brief message saying that she had gone back home and exerted herself in making Dua’ for al-Haakim Abu Abdullaah that night, and that she had seen the Messenger of Allaah-sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- in her sleep, and it was as if he was saying to her: “Tell Abu Abdullaah to distribute water amongst the Muslims.
I came with that message to al-Haakim, and he ordered that a watering place be built at the door of his home, when they had finished building it, he ordered for water to be poured into it and ice placed into that water, and then the people began drinking from that water. Not a week had passed by, except that it was obvious that his health had been restored, and the ulcers had ceased. His face had become better than it was before, and he lived like that for a number of years.’

And know, may Allaah have mercy upon you, that it is befitting that the servant should always have fear and concern for as long as he remains in this world because he does not know what condition he will die upon, what conclusion he will have, knowing what state he will meet Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic even if he performed every good deed.
And it is befitting that a man who has transgressed greatly to the detriment of his own soul should not give up hope in Allaah, the Most High, at the point of death. Rather, he should have good thoughts with respect to Allaah whilst fearing his sins. So, if Allaah has mercy upon him then it is from His favour and if He punishes him then it is because of his sins.
