Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has claimed that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to drop a lawsuit against the firm.
The US regulator alleged in 2023 that Coinbase had violated laws by offering investments that are subject to its rules, without properly registering.
Its boss Brian Armstrong said in a post on X on Friday that "an agreement" had been reached with the regulator's staff to dismiss the legal action which would see it pay no fines or make any changes to how it operates, when confirmed.

US President Donald Trump has fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff CQ Brown, the highest-ranking officer in the country, as part of a major shake-up of top military leadership.
"I want to thank General Charles 'CQ' Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country," Trump posted on social media. He said five other top officers were also being replaced.
Gen Brown was the second black officer to hold the post, the holder of which advises both the president and the secretary of defence on national security.

Ireland's goods exports to the United States surged by 34% to €72.6bn (£60.4bn) in 2024 while its imports from the US fell slightly to €22.5bn (£18.7bn).
