China ends two-day Taiwan drills with simulated strikes on key ports, energy sites
China's military on Wednesday said it had completed two days of exercises that included "live-fire" drills and simulated strikes on key ports and energy sites aimed at Taiwan, the self-ruled island it claims as its own.
The surprise maneuvers were condemned by Taiwan, while the United States criticised it as "intimidation tactics". They came less than a month after Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te called China a "foreign hostile force".
Named "Strait Thunder-2025A", the drills were in the middle and southern parts of the Taiwan Strait as well as the East China Sea, the military said.
By Wednesday evening, a People's Liberation Army spokesman Shi Yi said "the Eastern Theater Command has completed all designated tasks of the joint exercises carried out from Apr 1 to 2".
Earlier, he said that Wednesday's exercises were meant to "test the troops' capabilities" in areas such as "blockade and control, and precision strikes on key targets".
The military also said it had held "long-range live-fire drills" and practised hitting "simulated targets of key ports and energy facilities".
Taiwan officials blasted the drills as "reckless" and "irresponsible". Taiwan's military subsequently elevated its readiness level to ensure China does not "turn drills into combat" and "launch a sudden attack on us."

Maryland reparations bill inches forward as Gov. Wes Moore dodges questions on initiative
A Maryland bill proposing the establishment of a commission to study reparations, including financial restitution, is expected to clear its final hurdle in the House of Delegates with only days remaining in the 2025 legislative session.
Senate Minority Whip Justin Ready, R-Carroll and Frederick Counties, told Spotlight on Maryland he is confused as to why this bill is being advanced as the state faces a historic $3.3 billion deficit, which is forecasted to balloon to $6.7 billion by fiscal year 2028.
The reparations bill, a legislative priority announced at the beginning of the session by the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, passed the Senate before Crossover Day in mid-March. Crossover Day marks the unofficial deadline for legislative leaders in the Maryland General Assembly to move bills to the opposing chamber they intend to send to the governor for final approval.
Similar reparations commissions have been established by state assemblies in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Illinois. In 2024, the California Reparations Task Force released a report exceeding 11,000 pages that detailed its findings after a two-year study. The report called on the state to issue a formal apology for racial injustices, including slavery, and to provide financial payouts.

German politicians fret over gold reserves held in the US
Politicians and experts in Germany are increasingly concerned over the security of the nation’s vast quantity of gold stored in the United States as US-EU relations continue to deteriorate.
Germany currently holds the world’s second-largest reserves of gold at 3,352 tonnes, behind only the US. However, it is estimated that about 37% of those (roughly 1,236 tonnes) are held in vaults of the New York Federal Reserve, according to German publication Bild.
The yellow metal is known for its ability to provide security and liquidity during geopolitical turbulence. By keeping some of its gold across the Atlantic, the Bundesbank would theoretically have quick access to US currency should the need arise.
However, many in Germany are now feeling uneasy about keeping its precious metal there, now estimated to be worth over €100 billion, especially with US President Donald Trump repeatedly expressing the desire to gain more control over the Federal Reserve.
Some are now calling for the German government to bring their gold back as soon as possible.

Norway reopens debate on EU membership
Norway has reopened a long-standing and controversial debate on European Union membership after its Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg said: “We are by definition in favour of EU membership.”
Despite that, the Conservatives’ probable coalition partners, the populist Progress Party, indicated it was firmly opposed.
“If there comes a window to apply, we will apply. I believe that Norway would be a better country if we were a member of the EU,” said Solberg, Norway’s prime minister from 2013 to 2021.
Conservative Party voted at a March 29-30 conference that the EU should engage in quick accession negotiations “should the situation warrant it”, while a poll among the general public showed 43% for and 37% against joining the bloc.
The biggest obstacle, though, likely would be the Progress Party, the Conservatives’ coalition partner during Solberg’s previous term as prime minister. Progress, often described as right-wing, has opposed Norwegian membership of the EU since 2016.

Zeldin shutters multimillion-dollar Biden EPA museum that 'scarcely' saw visitors
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin is shuttering the Biden-era EPA museum located near the White House that "scarcely" saw visitors since it opened in 2024.
Zeldin announced Monday afternoon that the National Environmental Museum and Education Center, which opened last year under the Biden administration, will shutter after costing taxpayers millions to build and subsequently drew a lackluster number of visitors.
"The scarcely visited museum cost a whopping $4 million taxpayer dollars to build in accordance with Smithsonian standards and more than $600,000 annually to operate," the EPA said on Monday, describing the museum as the "Biden EPA’s pet project." "It had less than 2,000 external visitors between May 2024-February 2025 and while the museum was free, the cost to taxpayers per external visitor amounted to nearly $315 per person."
The EPA museum opened in May 2024 within the William Jefferson Clinton federal building, which is home to the EPA's headquarters and sits just blocks from the White House. A smaller EPA exhibit previously was showcased in a neighboring federal building ahead of the construction and opening of the National Environmental Museum and Education Center in 2024.

US must be ready for a 2027 Chinese invasion of Taiwan; Rep. Perry
The United States must act as if the Chinese regime’s ambition to annex Taiwan by 2027 is a “realistic potential,” Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) said late last week.
It follows a recent remark by the commander of U.S. Strategic Command, Gen. Anthony J. Cotton, at an annual defense conference that Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s goal to invade Taiwan in 2027 has driven the Chinese Communist Party’s investment “in land, sea, and air based nuclear delivery platforms, and infrastructure necessary to support a major buildup of their nuclear forces.”
Meanwhile, rumors of escalated purges within the People’s Liberation Army in the past weeks have raised questions on how the CCP’s internal power struggle will impact the regime’s decision-making on Taiwan.
Perry said taking Taiwan by 2027 has always been the CCP’s goal, and the world “needs to take that seriously” rather than assuming the CCP will be unable or unwilling to carry out the plan.
“We have to proceed in everything that we do and say, in every decision we make, as though that’s a realistic potential,” he said.
Perry, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and a retired Army brigadier general, is among the 28 lawmakers who backed a resolution in February calling for normalized diplomatic relations between the United States and Taiwan.

British Council institutes harsher criminal sentencing, but only for white men
The Sentencing Council of England and Wales, a non-departmental public body which determines the guidelines for court punishments of convicted offenders, has recently made controversial changes and ignited a firestorm among the native British populace.
The council has announced that special exceptions in sentencing will be made for ethnic minority offenders (the majority of violent crime in Britain) and religious minority offenders, as well as female offenders. In other words, everyone except white males will enjoy reduced sentencing, creating a two tier justice system that targets white men for harsher treatment.
Conservative shadow justice minister Robert Jenrick has called the guidance "two-tier justice" and "blatant bias" against Christians and straight white men, as he said it would make "a custodial sentence less likely for those from an ethnic minority, cultural minority, and/or faith minority community".

Could AI become conscious?
Not long ago, a Google engineer created a stir in the world of artificial intelligence by claiming that its flagship chatbot was sentient. “If I didn’t know exactly what it was, which is this computer program we built recently, I’d think it was a 7-year-old, 8-year-old kid that happens to know physics,” said Blake Lemoine.
“I know a person when I talk to it,” Lemoine told the Washington Post. “It doesn’t matter whether they have a brain made of meat in their head. Or if they have a billion lines of code. I talk to them. And I hear what they have to say, and that is how I decide what is and isn’t a person.”
Google thought that Lemoine was driving out of his lane and put him on paid leave and later sacked him. Google spokesperson Brian Gabriel commented: “Our team — including ethicists and technologists — has reviewed Blake’s concerns per our AI Principles and have informed him that the evidence does not support his claims.
The fact is that many people are quite anxious about the growing power of AI. No wonder Google wanted to hose down the alarming implications of Lemoine’s views. So who is right – Lemoine or Google? Is it time to press the panic button?

France: Afghan cuts the throat of victim in front of crowded McDonald’s in Bordeaux, leaves him to die on video
An Afghan man had been charged with murder after killing another Afghan for “bad behavior” in a dramatic scene captured on video in France.
Frantic screaming began after witnesses saw a horrific scene develop in front of them on Friday, at around 6:30 p.m. in Bordeaux, France. At Place de la Victoire, a 28-year-old Afghan was stabbed to death by a fellow 27-year-old Afghan national, with the victim splayed on his back as he bled out from his neck.
The suspect, who has been charged with murder, can be seen on the video sitting calmly after the murder.
The attacker reportedly arranged to meet with the victim before murdering him due to the victim’s “bad behavior” towards the suspect’s family in Afghanistan.

UK government has created a tool for the next pandemic or crisis; it maps the location of vulnerable groups for “targeted support”
Jonathan Engler, a British healthcare entrepreneur, has highlighted a national pandemic response exercise due to be held this Autumn.
In response to a report from the UK Covid Inquiry, “Ministers have also set out plans to better support vulnerable groups – such as the elderly or those receiving care – and train thousands of public servants to handle a range of crises, including pandemics,” a UK government press release about the exercise states.
What caught Engler’s eye in particular was the announcement of a Risk Vulnerability Tool created by the Cabinet Office in collaboration with the Office for National Statistics. By creating a map, the tool is designed to help departments visualise where vulnerable groups of people are located within the UK.
The tool aims to improve understanding of where to find disproportionately impacted groups ahead of and during crises and enable local “targeted support” where it is needed.
What kind of support will these targeted people receive? The same “support” as they received in 2020 such as midazolam?

The shameful silencing of Rangers fans
Football fans are being silenced – again. Scottish Premiership club Rangers FC has disowned some of its supporters after a banner was displayed at Ibrox, the club’s home stadium, during a recent Europa League match. It read: ‘Keep woke foreign ideologies out. Defend Europe.’
The banner appeared in the section of the Copland Road Stand where the Union Bears ultras – possibly Rangers’ most passionate fans – tend to gather. They were there for the second leg of a round-of-16 clash with Turkish club Fenerbahçe. This was a match played under UEFA’s jurisdiction, making the message even more pointed. This wasn’t just a domestic fixture, but one taking place on an international stage and overseen by a governing body increasingly intolerant of ideological dissent.
In a statement released earlier this month, Rangers revealed that UEFA had launched disciplinary proceedings over the banner, describing it as ‘racist and / or discriminatory’. The club also made clear its own righteous disapproval. It publicly disowned the dissenting fans, telling them that ‘Rangers is not the club for you’ and vowing to ‘identify those responsible’ so that ‘they also face consequences’.

Massive Thailand-Myanmar quake triggered by the climate crisis, suggests former Green Party leader
Germany’s former Green Party leader, Simone Peter, suggests that a cause of the huge earthquake in Southeast Asia is a climate change.
Ms. Peter bases her claim on an article that once appeared in the German leftist TAZ newspaper, which reported how a geologist speculated that melting of glaciers could possibly trigger earthquakes.
Ms. Peter reacted to the earthquake: “Wow, the massive quake in Myanmar and Thailand was also measurable in Europe.” … ‘“We know that earthquakes will continue to increase with the climate crisis, this is worrying for many parts of the world.”
Peter’s claim are of course utterly preposterous as there are no glaciers anywhere near Thailand and Myanmar to begin with. Earthquakes are instead caused by moving tectonic plates that have been shifting for hundreds of millions of years.

Tesla protests turn violent: pro-Musk demonstrator struck with car, woman beaten on side of road
With all of the leftwing vitriol against billionaire Elon Musk over his DOGE, violence targeting his supporters was bound to happen. In a disturbing incident, 70-year-old Christopher Talbot of Meridian was arrested after allegedly striking a counter-demonstrator at a Tesla Takedown protest near a Tesla dealership. According to the Meridian Police Department, Talbot is said to have hit a 49-year-old man after making an “obscene gesture” toward the victim around 1:00 pm on Sunday.
The victim, who was reportedly driving a vehicle with a flag in support of President Donald Trump, had parked when Talbot allegedly assaulted him. The victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital and was later released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tesla Takedown protest, consisting of a meager 30 demonstrators, was overshadowed by a counter-protest organized by the Idaho Liberty Dogs, which drew nearly 200 participants. In a hyperbolic social media post, organizers of the anti-Tesla protest declared, "Elon Musk is destroying our democracy, and he's using the fortune he built from Tesla to do it. We are taking action at Tesla to stop Musk's illegal coup," highlighting the intensity of their opposition to Musk's initiatives.

Secret Pentagon memo on preparing for war with China
Over the weekend The Washington Post revealed that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth distributed a memo in mid-March which ordered the Pentagon to prioritize its war-planning focus on potential future conflict with China.
The memo, called the Interim National Defense Strategic Guidance "outlines, in broad and sometimes partisan detail, the execution of President Donald Trump’s vision to prepare for and win a potential war against Beijing and defend the United States from threats in the ‘near abroad,’ including Greenland and the Panama Canal."
It's nothing new that the Pentagon considers China a 'top pacing threat' - but it does confirm that the Trump administration would likely be willing to go to war in the event of a mainland invasion of the self-ruled island.
The memo interestingly presented a strategy of "assuming risk" in Europe and other parts of the world, to refocus efforts on top nuclear-armed rivals.
The Pentagon’s force planning and new focus "will consider conflict only with Beijing when planning contingencies for a major power war" and leave the "threat from Moscow largely attended by European allies" - according to the report.
Hegseth wrote that China "is the Department’s sole pacing threat, and denial of a Chinese fait accompli seizure of Taiwan — while simultaneously defending the US homeland is the Department’s sole pacing scenario."

Status of US dollar as global reserve currency: Central banks diversify into other currencies and gold
The status of the US dollar as the dominant global reserve currency has helped the US fund its twin deficits, and thereby has enabled them: the huge fiscal deficit every year and the massive trade deficit every year. The reserve currency status comes from other central banks (not the Fed) having purchased trillions of USD-denominated assets such as Treasury securities, other government securities, corporate bonds, and even stocks. The dollar status as the dominant reserve currency has been crucial for the US, and as that dominance declines ever so slowly, risks pile up ever so slowly.
The US dollar lost further ground as top global reserve currency in 2024, according to the IMF’s COFER data released on March 31. Total holdings of USD-denominated securities by other central banks (not the Fed) fell by $59 billion to $6.63 trillion at the end of 2024, from $6.69 trillion at the end of 2023.
And the dollar’s share declined to 57.8% of total allocated exchange reserves at the end of 2024, the lowest since 1994, down by 7.3 percentage points in 10 years, as central banks have been diversifying their holdings for years to assets denominated in currencies other than the dollar, and into gold.
Nontraditional reserve currencies’ shares:
🇯🇵 Japanese yen, 5.8%.

Turkey moves to take control of Syria’s strategic T4 air base, aiming to deter Israeli aerial attacks
Turkey has begun efforts to take control of Syria’s Tiyas air base, also known as T4, and is preparing to deploy air defence systems there. Construction plans for the site are reportedly under way.
Ankara and Damascus have been negotiating a defence pact since December, following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad. The agreement would see Turkey provide air cover and military protection for Syria’s new government, which currently lacks a functioning military.
Although Turkish officials had previously downplayed the possibility of a military presence in Syria, describing such plans as premature, negotiations have quietly continued.
While Israel views a Turkish military presence in Syria as a potential threat, Ankara aims to stabilise the country by leveraging its military capabilities and filling the power vacuum left by the withdrawal of Russia and Iran.
Israel has regularly targeted Syrian military installations since Assad's government collapsed in December, with a recent surge in operations around T4. Last week, the Israeli air force struck T4 and the Palmyra air base, targeting runways and strategic assets.
An Israeli security source told the media that any Turkish air base in Syria would undermine Israel’s freedom of operation. “This is a potential threat that we oppose,” the source said.

Elon Musk says Tesla terror 'generals' have been identified: 'We're coming for them'
Amid a wave of violence against Tesla vehicles, showrooms and charging stations, Elon Musk labeled the attacks as "wide-scale domestic terrorism" and demanded authorities "go after the generals" behind the violence.
Over the weekend, anti-Musk protesters saw one of their biggest shows of force as the decentralized movement known as Tesla Takedown planned a "Global Day of Action" targeting more than 500 Tesla locations worldwide.
"This is fundamentally a case of terrorism. It's wide-scale domestic terrorism with the purpose of intimidation, and it's harming innocent people. It's really terrible," Musk said Tuesday on "The Five."
"What we actually have to get to are the people who are organizing and paying for these attacks and protests. That's who we really need to go after, because the people that were actually throwing the Molotov cocktails — they're the foot soldiers, but we need to go after the generals."
"The president has made it very clear that we're going to go after those that are paying and organizing these violent attacks, and Attorney General Bondi has said the same thing. I believe that that is exactly what will happen," Musk said, adding the administration knows who these "generals" are.

Zuckerberg’s right-wing metamorphosis appears to be a giant facade
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s recent shift rightward appears to be little more than window dressing, as his company’s policies still favor mass censorship.
Zuckerberg rocked the online world in early January 2025 when he announced a grand policy change, vowing that his companies would pivot from their censorship reflexes. The ideological renewal culminated in video where Zuckerberg proclaimed, “It’s time to get back to our roots in free expression on Facebook and Instagram.”
Despite the grand decree, Meta’s current community standards still leave the door wide open for censorship. The current community standards still contain a comprehensive section instructing users not to post content which would fall under its “hateful conduct” policy, though those policies were relaxed regarding the issues of gender identity, sexual orientation and religion.
Meta’s community guidelines still contain a section on “harmful health misinformation” that covers non-Covid-related public health issues. The policy reads, “We consult with leading health organizations to identify health misinformation likely to directly contribute to imminent harm to public health and safety.”
As part of the company’s bullying and harassment policy, one may also find themselves on the wrong end of a suspension if they produce content that “degrades or expresses disgust toward individuals who are depicted in the process of, or right after, menstruating, urinating, vomiting, or defecating.”
A spokesperson for Meta explained that its bullying and harassment policy allows users to express disgust at an action but may not target a specific person and that the policy did not change as part of its January announcement.

European countries resist US push to scrap diversity and inclusion initiatives
U.S. government efforts to eliminate diversity initiatives are not going down well on the European continent.
Laurent Saint-Martin, France’s minister for foreign trade, said on Monday the country won’t compromise after the U.S. State Department said that French companies who have contracts with the U.S. government need to drop diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. In neighboring Belgium, where some companies received similar requests, the government lashed out at the new U.S. rules.
French media reported last week that French companies received a letter saying U.S. President Donald Trump’s rollback of DEI initiatives also could apply outside of the U.S.
Saint-Martin spoke to RTL Radio following the reports and said French authorities will seek explanations from their U.S. counterparts about the letter.
The reported demands included abandoning inclusion policies that are part of French and European Union laws such as equality between men and women, the fight against discrimination and racism or the promotion of diversity to help people with disabilities, he said.
“All of this is progress that corresponds first and foremost to our French values, we are proud of this and we don’t want to compromise on it,” Saint-Martin said. “We can’t just cancel the application of our own laws overnight.”

In latest blow to European democracy, judge rules Marine Le Pen ineligible to run for president in 2027
National Rally (RN) party leader Marine Le Pen has been found guilty of embezzlement of public funds and was banned from running in elections with immediate execution. She has also been sentenced to four years imprisonment, with two years suspended.
On the morning of March 31, the judge at the Paris court also handed down guilty verdicts to eight other current or former members of Le Pen’s party who, like her, previously served as MEPs in the European Parliament.
According to the court, the politicians set up a system between 2004 and 2016 to funnel €2.9 million from the EP to the headquarters of the RN in Paris. Le Pen has been “at the heart of this system since 2009”, according to President Bénédicte de Perthuis.
For this, Le pen and all elected officials were sentenced to ineligibility. However, at the time of publication, it was unclear for how long she would be ineligible. Le Pen herself was found guilty of embezzling €474,000 of public funds.
The public prosecutor demanded a five-year ineligibility sentence against her. If this sentence included immediate enforcement, the RN’s leading figure would automatically become ineligible from running in the 2027 presidential election, even if an appeal was possible.

Judge blocks Trump from ending amnesty for 350,000 migrants
A federal judge on Monday ordered Homeland Security to keep in place a deportation amnesty for 350,000 Venezuelan migrants who were about to lose their status, saying the Trump administration seemed to be acting on “negative stereotypes.”
U.S. District Judge Edward Chen, an Obama appointee to the court in California, said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem likely broke the law when she canceled Temporary Protected Status for the Venezuelans. He said her reasoning was “entirely lacking in evidentiary support” and shouldn’t stand.
Judge Chen also ruled that the migrants stand to lose too much if they are ousted, so he ordered the government to postpone the end of TPS for those Venezuelans. He took a particular swipe against President Trump’s “America First” slogan, saying the fact that he and Ms. Noem have used it to justify their policies showed an “unconstitutional animus” toward migrants.

Bill Gates says AI will eliminate most jobs except for coders, energy experts, and biologists
Last Wednesday, CNBC reported that Bill Gates has “predicted” that within the next 10 years, advancements in AI will significantly reduce the need for human involvement in many tasks, including those of doctors, teachers and people who are “growing food.” He made the remarks during an interview with Jimmy Fallon last month.
During the interview, Gates identified only three occupations that are likely to remain safe from a hostile AI takeover: coders, energy experts and biologists.
Gates believes coders are necessary because while AI can generate code, it makes errors that only human programmers can correct.
Interestingly, writing for Windows Central earlier this week, Kevin Okemwa said, “Over the past few months, I’ve covered multiple reports suggesting that coding might be dead in the water with the rapid prevalence of AI. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang discouraged the youth from exploring a career path in software engineering, suggesting they might have better luck in biology, education, manufacturing or farming.”
As for “energy experts,” Gates claims the complexity of managing power grids and critical infrastructure requires human oversight for safety and strategic decisions. But for how long? Because when the energy required to supply the Globalists’ control system is in place, will “energy experts” be required?
The third group whose jobs Gates deems worthy of saving are biologists. Gates “predicts” that biologists will remain essential in the face of AI advancements due to their unique skills in scientific discovery and critical thinking.
While AI can process vast datasets and aid in disease diagnosis, it lacks the ability to formulate groundbreaking hypotheses or make intuitive leaps in research. AI has yet to master creativity, intuition and critical thinking – Gates is foolish if he thinks it ever will. Nevertheless, apparently, out of all the many roles people fulfil in the world, biologists are the only ones, according to Gates, who rely on these human qualities.

Macron fails to get Europe to send troops to Ukraine
European leaders met last week at the behest of French President Emmanuel Macron, who wants to solidify a plan to send troops to Ukraine as a security package. However, the meetings emerged, according to the Wall Street Journal, “without a public commitment from other European countries to send troops.”
France and the United Kingdom have been pushing for troops on the ground in Ukraine, while most are apparently unwilling to send their armed forces to Ukraine without the protection of the United States.
“My wish is that the Americans are engaged at our side, but we have to be prepared for a situation in which they maybe don’t join in,” Macron said.
Another European diplomat said, "when Ukraine was in a better position, the idea of sending troops appealed. But now, with the situation on the ground and the U.S administration as it is, it's not very sexy.”
Meanwhile, after negotiations earlier in the week, U.S. and Russian leaders agreed on an expanded ceasefire deal focused on the Black Sea.

Intelligence community warns America's adversaries are uniting
Cartels and gangs pose the most direct danger to the U.S., intelligence officials said as they delivered their annual global threat assessment to Congress.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said drug cartels have flooded America with drugs, helped migrants swamp the border and are growing increasingly violent in the areas south of the border where they operate.
She said the cartels and gangs are what “most immediately and directly threaten the United States.”
“They seek to challenge the United States and other countries through deliberate campaigns to gain an advantage while also trying to avoid direct war,” the assessment said.
“Growing cooperation between and among these adversaries is increasing their fortitude against the United States, the potential for hostilities with any one of them to draw in another, and pressure on other global actors to choose sides.”

Gold reaches all-time high amid escalating trade tensions
Gold prices surged to an all-time high ($3,086.70/oz) amid escalating U.S.-led trade tensions, marking its 18th record this year.
President Trump’s new 25% tariffs on foreign-made cars and parts sparked fears of retaliation (e.g., Canada, EU), worsening risk sentiment and boosting gold demand.
Wall Street declined, and the U.S. Dollar Index dropped 0.33%, supporting gold’s rise (inverse dollar correlation). Other metals like silver and platinum also saw weekly gains.
Despite trade tensions, U.S. labor (224K jobless claims) and GDP (2.3% Q4 growth) showed resilience, while Fed rate cut expectations (64.5 bps by 2025) remained intact.
The renewed trade war concerns and the resulting market volatility have pushed gold prices to new record highs. As investors continue to seek safe havens, the precious metal is likely to remain a popular choice. The upcoming release of the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, the Core Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index, will be closely watched for further insights into the direction of monetary policy and its impact on gold prices.

It's not your imagination: lower courts acting much differently toward Trump admin than previous ones
If you’ve paid attention to the news lately, you’d think you were living in the movie “Groundhog Day” where the Bill Murray character is forced to live the same day over and over again. So it is with the lower courts and the Trump administration, where it seems as if not an afternoon goes by without some judge you’ve never heard of stepping in and thwarting Donald Trump’s agenda.
The Republicans may have complete control of Congress, but President Trump still has a major roadblock to carrying out his agenda — the courts.
The lower courts blocked more of Trump’s executive orders in his first two months of office than they did for other recent commanders in chief during their entire terms.
The lower courts have slapped at least 15 national injunctions against Trump so far this year.
That drastically outpaces the six against former President George W. Bush during his entire presidency and the 12 against former President Barack Obama and the 14 against former President Joe Biden for their whole time in office, too.

Germany’s Stern magazine calls for conscription of young people to take up arms ‘to defend diversity’ in pro-war propaganda piece
German youth should die for ethnic food restaurants and LGBT museum exhibits, according to the logic of the New Germany
Stern Magazine is calling for mass conscription of German youths to join the army, including to ensure the defense of “freedom and diversity.” The reaction to the article has been harsh to say the least, with hundreds of negative comments directed at Stern.
The article, entitled “Others no longer defend us? Then we must do it ourselves!” claims that “the USA no longer wants to protect Germany. This brings a bitter realization: Our unbearable complacency must end.”
The solution? Start drafting German youth to fight the future wars. The author, Tilman Gerwien, a German male noticeable well past the age of someone who might typically be drafted, says that the days of a “dollhouse-like Bullerbü” are over and “we have to grow up.” He details the left’s traditional stance against conscription, which saw German youths demanding American troops leave Germany, was “not only a matter of conscience, but also a lifestyle.” He noted that at demonstrations against NATO, “people hopped around in peace-loving spirits, chanting ‘Out of NATO, into fun!'” All of this has to end, according to Gerwien, who does not seem particularly like the type of person to rush into battle himself.
There is no way to know if Gerwien was ever a part of these previous protests or ever shared those sentiments at one time, but it is notable that he is now old enough to not have to face the draft himself. Lucky him.
