We are aiming for 144 launches in 2024 (12 per month). The launch system (pads, recovery, flight hardware) needs to be capable of 13/month so we can play catch up when planned maintenance, debacles and weather inevitably slow us down.
After an extended break, we're back to bring you all the latest updates! (Happy New Year!) As we launch into 2024, let's look back at the stellar year SpaceX had in 2023:
📊 Highlights of the year:
• 98 launches - 91 Falcon 9s, 5 Falcon Heavies, and 2 Starships.
• 185 consecutive booster landings.
• Falcon's life leader booster hit a record 19 flights & landings.
Excluding undisclosed payload masses, SpaceX has launched over 1,238 tonnes of payload to orbit that year, or 2.25 times the mass of a Falcon 9 rocket ready for takeoff.
Hardware for Starship flight three will be ready in January, and that the company expects to receive an FAA license in February.
SpaceX was founded to help create a future where not just hundreds but thousands and ultimately millions of people can travel off Earth, to live and work in space and on other planets.

Dragon missions are important for safely flying astronauts to conduct research and other activities in orbit, as well as laying the foundation for that future where more people from all around the world have an opportunity to travel to low-Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, or beyond!
To support our growing manifest of Dragon missions, we upgraded our pad at Space Launch Complex 40 to also support human spaceflight missions! Meaning, we’ll have more opportunities for more people to fly on Dragon to orbit

SpaceX released a new render of the upcoming Polaris Dawn mission.
Commanded by rookisaacman, this mission will most notably conduct the first commercial spacewalk. Scheduled to launch in early 2024.

Great update from Elon including a rendering of Dragon's EVA config w/mobility aids. Elon highlighted the challenge of building an EVA suit but also the importance for future lunar & Mars applications. The suits we will test on Polaris Dawn represent a step towards that goal

Key takeaways from NASA's latest Artemis media conference, with the intervention of Jessica Jensen, VP of Customer Operations and Integration at SpaceX:
Artemis 3 has been pushed back to September 2026 to "give Artemis teams more time to work through the challenges". "Artemis 4 remains on track for September 2028", per former Senator Bill Nelson.
On-orbit ship-to-ship propellant transfer demos are intended to be conducted starting this same year, but not on IFT-3. That flight test will feature a propellant transfer test from S28's header tank to its main tank, though. Hardware for IFT-3 is expected to be ready this month and, if all goes according to plan, a new FAA license should be issued in February, according to Jessica.
SpaceX intends to "do an uncrewed landing on the Moon and then ascend from the surface" in 2025 to ensure crew safety before Artemis 3. They will do as many integrated flight tests as they can before that landing takes place.
The number of refills Starship will have to undergo for Artemis is still to be determined, but is currently expected to be ~10. That number will probably go down as SpaceX continues to test and iterate.
