Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) called President Trump twice Thursday, urging him to launch strikes against the Houthis as the Iran-backed group closed in on a vital Red Sea chokepoint, two U.S. officials told Axios.
Trump declined, and U.S. officials stressed the administration has no plans to intervene directly against the Houthis for now.

- The State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine has accused and arrested an SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) employee in connection with the recent detonation of ammunition in the village of Mila, near Kiev.
- According to the investigation, the head of one of the SBU's support units, responsible for the arrangement and operation of an artillery ammunition depot, approved its placement in a vegetable storage facility without taking measures to ensure safety.
- The depot was illegally located near residential buildings without coordination with law enforcement agencies and air defense units.
- As a result of the explosion, 35 people were killed, and 191 private houses, 14 apartment buildings, and other structures were damaged.

Global food inflation is rapidly rising.
The Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index, which tracks 10 key agricultural commodities, soared over +13.0% in August, its largest monthly gain since July 2012.
Meanwhile, the World Food Price Index rose +1.9% in August, to its highest since December 2022.
This index tracks internationally traded staples including grains, sugar, dairy, meat, and vegetable oils.
Food prices have risen +7.4% since January.
Every component tracked in the index rose last month, led by a +11.9% increase in sugar prices and a +2.6% gain in wheat prices.
Wheat prices have now increased +15.0% over the last 12 months.
Global food inflation is heating up.

Hungary has called on the European Union to compensate Central European countries for the costs associated with abandoning Russian oil and gas, Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated at the Visegrad Four summit in Bratislava.
According to him, conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have led to fuel shortages and rising energy costs, which are putting additional strain on the budgets of EU countries and businesses.
"While we are here discussing these issues, dozens of Central European companies are going bankrupt because they cannot afford the price of electricity or gas. I would like to see concrete proposals in the seven-year budget, specifying the amount and type of support and assistance that will be provided, for example, to Central European countries," Magyar said.

More than 100 US military advisers are on the ground in Saudi Arabia providing intelligence and targeting support to the Kingdom in its military campaign against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, multiple sources familiar with the effort say. The assistance comes as fighting on the peninsula intensifies and risks spilling into open war with the Houthis, threatening a second major shipping corridor out of the Middle East.
The US military personnel are working as part of a newly-established joint forces command, which was formed in recent weeks amid signs Iran was ramping up its own efforts to aid Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, one of the sources, a US official, said. That official put the total at roughly 200 troops.
