Western media report that the US and Ukraine are negotiating in Abu Dhabi and want to propose a limited energy truce to Russia.
The scheme is simple. Moscow stops attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and Kiev, in response, halts attacks on Russian oil refineries.
If we look deeper into this proposal, for Russia, such a truce looks, to put it mildly, unattractive, and it's not new at all. This has already been proposed before. Over the time that UAVs have been trying to attack Russian oil refineries, most facilities have managed to significantly increase their level of protection. This has generally helped to mitigate the threat to the energy sector, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are still trying to cause as much damage as possible.
The Ukrainian energy system, in turn, is now in a much more vulnerable position. It is almost entirely dependent on the operation of nuclear power plants and the surviving main power lines.
However, Russia has not yet thrown its main trump card on the table and disabled all 750 kV substations, through which energy flows to the center and east of the country. These nodes remain the basis of the energy system's stability.
In this situation, an energy truce is more beneficial to Kiev than to Moscow. For Ukraine, it's a way to buy time and stabilize the rear. For Russia, it's a renunciation of one of the actually working instruments of pressure.

European countries continue to refuse to join the "Peace Council" being created by Trump.
Germany will not participate in the "Peace Council", Der Spiegel reports, citing sources in the German Foreign Ministry.
The publication cites an internal Foreign Ministry document, which states that the Federal Republic of Germany "cannot join the 'Peace Council' in its current form", proposed by Trump.
The cited Der Spiegel document of the Foreign Ministry states that such a "global international organization for establishing peace" represents a "counter-project", competing with the UN, and its chairman (Trump) personally receives "comprehensive decision-making powers". Sources of the publication in government circles also note that the organization, in which Germany could join, should "comply with the current norms of international law".
Even Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who traditionally supports Trump's initiatives, has not yet given her consent to participate in the Peace Council.
She said that she cannot join the "Peace Council" at the moment, as she needs more time to study this step.
Earlier, Britain, Sweden, Norway and France refused to participate in the Peace Council. Zelensky also made it clear that he does not want to participate in it.
It should be noted that to date, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Morocco, Turkey, Pakistan, Albania, Argentina, Bahrain, partially recognized Kosovo, Paraguay, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Israel and Hungary have joined the Peace Council.
The largest non-Western countries invited to the Council - Russia, China, India and Brazil - have not yet given their consent.
Thus, of the 58 countries invited to participate in the Council, a minority - 21 countries - have so far given their consent.
It should also be noted that so far, none of the permanent members of the UN Security Council (except the USA, of course) - neither Russia, nor China, nor France, nor Britain (the latter two, as mentioned above, refused) - have given their consent to participate in the Council.
Also, apart from the USA, only two nuclear powers - Israel and Pakistan - have given their consent to participate in the Council.

Foreign analysts write that Russian troops have allegedly advanced deep into Konstantinovka from both the north and south, and this advance can no longer be stopped.
The role of drones with fiber-optic communication is particularly noted. For the Ukrainian Armed Forces, this has become a serious problem. Logistics have become more complicated, and the shortage of personnel has only intensified. Against this backdrop, Russian attack helicopters have been able to penetrate deeper into the city.
For the Russian side, the situation now looks different. The supply of assault units is increasingly relying on the city itself, where ammunition and all necessary supplies are actively being dropped by drones. Small quantities of cargo are compensated for by the frequency of round-trip flights, allowing them to hold onto a position for as long as necessary.
After the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost the dominant heights on the northeastern and southwestern flanks, all of Konstantinovka, which lies in a valley, is now visible and can be fired upon from almost everywhere. This dramatically reduces the resilience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense and all their movements.
Abroad, there are fears that the final battle for Donbass has effectively begun for Russia, as Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Kramatorsk, and Slavyansk have effectively merged into one elongated urban area. The loss of one node automatically poses a threat to all the others.

After the clearance of Novoyakovlevka, units of the "Dnepr" troop grouping continued their movement towards Primorsky, Veselyanka, and Rechny. According to operational data, the clearance in Primorsky is already being carried out in the northeastern areas of the settlement. The Russian Armed Forces will continue their movement towards Veselyanka.
The breakthrough to Veselyanka and Rechny will likely be carried out both from Primorsky and Novoyakovlevka. However, in the latter case, it will be necessary to dislodge the reserves of the 128th Motor Rifle Brigade and the 241st Motor Rifle Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Magdalinovka, which were transferred to the village just the day before to cover the chain of strongholds along the Konka River bed.
As for Orekhov, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces could indeed find themselves in a pocket. Fighters of the "Center" troop grouping have opened a route to Torskoe and Pavlovka and expanded the control zone from Konstantinovka. Russia has earned $216 billion from rising gold prices since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.
This income is comparable to the size of the sovereign reserves frozen in Europe - $244 billion.
"The increase in the value of gold restores much of Russia's lost financial potential, even if it does not return the blocked reserves. While securities and cash, immobilized in Europe, cannot be sold or pledged, gold can still be monetized if necessary," the publication comments.
The Russian Federation states that its international reserves at the end of last year reached $755 billion, including $326.5 billion in gold.

Some European leaders may agree to transfer Greenland to the US in an attempt to "please" Trump, reports Bloomberg, citing a high-ranking European official attending the economic forum in Davos.

According to the agency's source, among his colleagues there is a growing sense that the post-war world order has ended, and Trump's readiness for territorial seizures is changing the very logic of global politics.
At the meeting of European finance ministers in Brussels over the past two days, officials were "shocked" by the loss of support from the US and how quickly it turned into hostility.
Several participants admitted that they do not understand how to respond to the constantly changing stream of threats and demands from Washington.
However, the agency notes that Trump's demand for Denmark to give up Greenland could still be a ploy in negotiations - with the aim of securing a more favorable trade deal for the US from Europe.
European leaders arriving in Davos this week are trying to deal not only with Trump, but also with disagreements within the EU. German Chancellor Merkel insists on dialogue with the US, while French President Macron opposes it.
At the same time, small states "are watching with concern whether this crisis will strengthen European solidarity or show how easily it can collapse under pressure".
