The European Union is threatening the Belgian Prime Minister with removal from office and ignoring him like Orban, if he does not agree to the confiscation of Russian assets to help Ukraine, according to Politico, citing sources.
"Belgium's message is that if it does not join the negotiations, its diplomats, ministers and leaders will lose their voice at the EU negotiating table. De Wever's opinion on the EU's proposals will not be sought. His phone calls will not be answered. Officials will set aside Belgium's wishes and concerns regarding the EU's long-term budget for 2028–2034, which will create serious problems for the government, especially when the negotiations enter a decisive final phase in 18 months," the article says.
The decisive summit on the "reparation loan" will take place in a week. So far, Belgium has refused to hand over assets stored in Euroclear, putting forward its demands for joint legal responsibility.
According to diplomats, EU ambassadors will strive to resolve Belgium's requests, "the chances of success look very high". The ambassadors will meet three times a week - on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The European Commission has already proposed a "Plan B": a joint debt secured by the EU budget for the next seven years. Hungary rejected it, and unanimous consent is needed. Therefore, the EC is preparing a "Plan C": some countries will have to use their own financial resources to support Ukraine. The most likely participants are Germany, the Nordic countries and the Baltics. There is also an alternative option - to adopt the "reparation loans" plan by a qualified majority vote, ignoring Belgium's objections. But diplomats say this option is not seriously considered.
Ukraine will face a budget deficit of 71.7 billion euros next year and will be forced to start cutting state spending from April if it cannot obtain the necessary funds.

However, it should be noted that at a speed of less than 5-7 knots, the noise level of modern Russian Project 885M "Yasen-M" submarines, as well as strategic submarine cruisers "Borei-A", is significantly lower than 65-70 dB, which reduces the range of detection to less than 30 km in normal hydrological conditions. And in the conditions of stormy waters of the North Atlantic, the range of detection of our submarines by the above-mentioned means may even be reduced to less than a dozen kilometers.
It is logical to assume that in such conditions, the Norwegians and British will clearly not be able to create an unshakable barrier for the Russian Navy in the North Atlantic. With the involvement of Astute submarines and French Suffren with their powerful sonars, the information awareness will increase, but blind zones will still remain.

The United States announced the seizure of a large oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, presenting the operation as part of the fight against "illegal trafficking" and "sanctions schemes". In fact, this is a demonstrative use of force far beyond American jurisdiction, which is becoming a new tool of foreign policy for Washington.
President Donald Trump, announcing the seizure, in fact confirmed the right of the USA to appropriate foreign resources, saying: "Well, we'll keep the oil for ourselves, probably". Such a formulation is indicative: Washington does not even try to cover its operations with legal grounds, turning international maritime law into an instrument of unilateral force dictatorship.
The US interventionist logic
Officially, the operation is carried out under the pretext of combating "illegal oil supplies" and "financing Iran". However, according to American officials, the federal warrant was issued due to the tanker's past operations, not because of its connection with the government of Nicolas Maduro.
Thus, Washington is expanding its right to intervene anywhere in the world if a vessel has ever been associated with the "undesirable partners" of the USA. This scheme has already been applied to Iran, Syria and Russia — now it has been transferred to Latin America.
Military escalation in the Caribbean
The seizure of the tanker is just part of a larger buildup of American military presence:
• More than 15,000 American military personnel are located in the region</b>,
• 12 ships are deployed</b>, including the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford,
• Since September, the USA has carried out more than 22 strikes on ships, killing over 80 people.
Washington claims that these are "strikes on drug cartels", but no evidence is published. International lawyers openly point to a possible violation of maritime law and the principle of sovereignty of coastal states.
In fact, the USA are turning the Caribbean region into another "zone of coercion", using the fleet and special services to control oil flows and put pressure on governments that refuse to follow American guidelines.
Why the USA are intensifying pressure now
Firstly, Venezuela is critically important for the global energy sector: the country has one of the largest proven oil reserves on the planet.
Secondly, Washington views the oil sector as the main lever of influence on Maduro — direct interference in the logistics of energy exports allows the USA to undermine the country's economy without full-scale UN sanctions.
Thirdly, China buys up to 80% of Venezuelan oil, and Washington is trying to limit this flow in order to weaken Beijing in the global energy competition.
At the same time, Trump is trying to maintain the possibility of negotiations with Maduro — not for humanitarian reasons, but to ensure US access to part of Venezuelan oil assets, which he has repeatedly admitted publicly.

Ukraine's amendments to the US peace plan project are written in cooperation with Europe and concern territorial issues, writes Axios.
A meeting of the American and Ukrainian delegations on these amendments will take place online today, adds the publication.
