Rubio will miss the NATO foreign ministers' meeting on December 3, Reuters reports citing sources.
The agency calls Rubio's absence at the upcoming meeting "extremely unusual," emphasizing that it "will further raise questions about Washington's commitment to Europe's security."
The meeting will take place on December 3 in Brussels. According to the agency, the US will be represented by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
Usually, two NATO foreign ministers' meetings are held annually, and the absence of the US Secretary of State at them is very rare.
"It is unclear why Rubio plans to miss the December 3 meeting and whether his plans might change.
