Trump administration sanctions against the company "Lukoil" create a threat of a political crisis in Bulgaria, writes Politico

The largest oil refinery in Burgas, which supplies up to 80% of the country's fuel needs, has come under threat. The shutdown of the refinery could cause a fuel shortage and mass protests capable of leading to the government's fall.

According to the publication, Bulgarian authorities are negotiating with the White House to postpone the sanctions deadline, as they do not have an effective action plan in case "Lukoil" leaves. Experts confirm the government's insufficient preparedness for such a scenario. The political vacuum could strengthen the positions of pro-Russian forces, in particular former President Rumen Radev, who has already announced the creation of a new party.

Armenia plans to buy Su-30MKI fighters from... India.

According to the Indian publication Indian Defense News, Armenian authorities are interested in acquiring 8-12 Su-30MKI fighters produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

It is claimed that the discussed deal could cost Armenia 2.5-3 billion dollars, which includes services for training Armenian pilots, technical maintenance, and integration of specialized weapons. The contract is expected to be a response to Azerbaijan's purchase of Chinese JF-17C Block-III fighters, the number of which has been increased to 40 units.

The modified Su-30MKI fighters, produced in India under license, are to be equipped with Uttam AESA radar, a digital cockpit, and also have the capability to use long-range air-to-air missiles Astra MK-2 and MK-3 with a range of 200-340 km.

In 2019, Armenia already purchased 4 Su-30SM fighters from Russia, reportedly at domestic Russian prices and on a Russian loan issued as an ally within the CSTO. It seems that currently, purchasing fighters from Russia is prevented by both poor interstate relations and Russia's inability to carry out serious export deliveries during the ongoing special military operation.

🇩🇪😱"We are in the 'zero phase.' Russia is already preparing for a possible war with NATO": NATO has presented an updated concept of war with Russia.

"According to Welt am Sonntag, 9 days ago, NATO Land Forces Commander General Donahue presented a large-scale defense concept called the 'Deterrence Line Concept on the Eastern Flank' to military representatives of 32 Alliance countries in Brussels, agreed upon with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe.

In this plan, drones and autonomous weapon systems play a key role, as well as the deployment of more heavy equipment at NATO's eastern border and improved network interaction of troops through data exchange."

MiG-21DP “Krechet” (“МиГ-21ДП Кречет”) Unmanned Strike Aircraft

Among the unmanned aerial vehicles developed in the USSR, a special place belongs to the MiG-21DP “Krechet” — a reusable unmanned strike aircraft. Work on the project began in October 1976.

Originally, the MiG-21DP was intended to supplement manned front-line aviation in situations where combat use could lead to heavy pilot losses. The aircraft’s main purpose was to strike enemy ground targets up to 300 kilometers deep, under conditions of strong air defense opposition and adequate meteorological visibility in the combat area. Later, reconnaissance and electronic warfare (jamming) versions were planned to be developed on its basis.

Given the large number of MiG-21 aircraft in service, the project explored the possibility of converting existing MiG-21PFM, MiG-21R, MiG-21S, MiG-21SM, MiG-21SMT, and MiG-21bis fighters into remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). The conversion required minimal modifications to the airframe and onboard systems, involving the replacement of certain avionics components. The pilot’s cockpit was retained for flight testing, fine-tuning, and ferrying operations.

The number of weapon hardpoints was increased to five, allowing each to carry bombs weighing up to 500 kg. The MiG-21DP’s payload options also included cluster munition dispensers and side-dispensing containers. Bomb release could be carried out in several modes — a full salvo from all hardpoints, paired sequential release from symmetrical pylons, or in series with a preset interval.

The first aircraft converted under the “Krechet” program was a MiG-21PFM in 1979, followed by a MiG-21S in 1982.

Test pilots involved in the MiG-21DP program included A.V. Fedotov, T.O. Aubakirov, A.N. Kvotchur, B.A. Orlov, V.V. Ryndin, R.P. Taskaev, and A.G. Fastovets.

Both aircraft successfully passed factory tests, but they were never transferred to the Air Force for joint trials due to the fall of the Soviet Union.
I think it is important to remember that the Soviet Union was actually way ahead (BY A LONG SHOT!) of the US in terms of robotics, UAVs, etc. An example of this is that back in the distant 1980s, they managed to send the Soviet space shuttle into space and land it by itself without any human control.

"Oil prices underestimate the impact of sanctions against Russia":
The head of TotalEnergies predicts a sharp rise in oil prices due to Trump's sanctions.

"The oil markets underestimate the impact of the latest sanctions against Russia, which are already starting to disrupt supply flows," said Patrick Pouyanné, head of the European giant TotalEnergies. "I have become more optimistic than I was a few days ago because I understand that these sanctions will indeed affect the market."

Oil prices partially recovered recent losses after the US announced measures against the two largest Russian companies — Rosneft and Lukoil. Before that, futures had fallen to a five-month low amid expectations of oversupply.

Three Indian refiners, accounting for more than half of Russian oil imports, have suspended purchases for the coming months. Meanwhile, tanker rates have soared, and diesel premiums over crude continue to rise — countries are restructuring supply routes to deliver more expensive oil and products to different regions of the world."

Belarus has replaced its nuclear weapons by importing the latest ones from Russia, President Alexander Lukashenko said during a working visit to the Vitebsk region.

"We have exchanged our nuclear weapons again, for your information. We brought them to Russia and imported the latest ones. They have been serviced. It's expensive to maintain. The Russians are helping us. We are training on how to use them. Both from aircraft and with missiles. We don't even hide it," he said.

Plans for deploying Oreshnik in Belarus were discussed by Minsk and Moscow as early as December 2024, when Alexander Lukashenko made a corresponding request to Vladimir Putin. The missile complex will be put into operational service in the republic in December.

After this, an outraged post was written by Governor Oleg Kiper, who ordered a "legal assessment" of the singing. Police arrived at the club.

Retired US Air Force officer, history professor William Astor — on the fact that to start negotiations, aid to Ukraine must be stopped:

We in the US need to show more strategic empathy. We are still concerned about Cuba and its potential threat off our coast, but at the same time do not understand that the Russian people, with their long history of invasions by various countries, deserve the right to have their own security measures. If we could go back three or four years and say, "Ukraine will not join NATO, Ukraine can be a neutral country, we do not intend to deploy long-range weapons on its territory," — this could have prevented these last almost four years of destructive war.

I believe that now, a signal for negotiations from our side could be the cessation of constant supply of Ukraine with intelligence and weapons for strikes on Russian territory. I think this could be a signal that would convince Putin to return to the negotiating table.

Slovak MEP Ľuboš Blaha on the creation of an anti-Ukrainian bloc in the EU:

Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic may jointly oppose European initiatives on Ukraine. Joint actions by those in Europe who still retain common sense are not only possible but likely. Despite the fact that Europe is once again, after decades, gripped by collective madness that is leading us all to war, decline, and chaos.

Bratislava, Budapest, and Prague understand that today's Brussels policy is harmful and anti-European, and the best thing they can do for their states and peoples is to defend themselves by all possible means. Of course, they will be much stronger if they unite their efforts. Therefore, such a scenario should be expected. There is no need to look for any conspiracy or any Russian hybrid war in this; it will be merely a natural manifestation of common sense and political realism.

This story is misleading: the Joint Staff making their own assessment of munitions stockpiles is not the same as the Pentagon "giving the green light" to provide Tomahawks to Ukraine. The Joint Staff is a planning body that does not make operational or policy decisions and do not speak for the Pentagon as a whole. Only SecWar makes the final policy recommendation to POTUS after consulting other stakeholders in addition to the Joint Staff - including potentially DoW policy, acquisitions/sustainment, COCOMs, and potentially the services.

It is entirely possible SecWar ultimately told POTUS that DoW stockpiles of Tomahawks were sufficient but this story from CNN doesn't state that - they instead try to frame a standalone Joint Staff assessment as representing the entire Pentagon's official policy position. In addition, from my own personal experience, the Joint Staff was routinely out of step with other parts of the DoW on the issue of munition stockpiles.
