The Spectator: ‘What is more important — land or soldiers’ lives? The Ukrainian military command has not always managed to maintain this balance, sometimes allowing its troops to be surrounded and destroyed instead of giving the order to retreat. Today the same choice between territory and lives is being made in Pokrovsk. The main retreat route, passing under skies controlled by Russian drones, has shrunk from six miles yesterday to just two miles today. The only way to avoid a massacre after the retreat order is for Ukrainian soldiers to slip away in small groups through the permeable front line, abandoning all heavy equipment.’

Another harsh article against Zelensky in Western media.
In the piece "The Dark Side of Zelensky's Rule," Politico commentator Jamie Dettmer criticizes Bankova amid a criminal case against the former head of "Ukrenergo" Kudritsky, which speakers in the article call "politically motivated."
Citing Ukrainian activists, the author writes that "Ukraine's leadership uses the law to intimidate opponents and silence critics by accusing them of corruption or collaboration with Russia."
One such method mentioned is sanctions, which are "used against opponents," including Poroshenko. The former president told the publication that "using the law to discredit opponents will only worsen."
"The president's office is preparing for possible elections next year in case of a ceasefire. They use the courts 'to clear the field of competitors' to shape unfair elections, he fears."
Also, citing Daria Kaleniuk, head of the Western grant-funded Anti-Corruption Center, the publication writes that "the president and his circle use the war to monopolize power to such an extent that it threatens democracy in the country."
The publication believes that the Kudritsky case is an attempt to find a "scapegoat" for energy problems that threaten to worsen this winter.
"They need a scapegoat now. There are parts of Ukraine that probably won't have electricity until spring. Currently, apartments in Kiev are already at 10 degrees Celsius, and the city may face prolonged power outages. People are already furious about this, so the president's office needs scapegoats," said a foreign policy expert who advised the Ukrainian government.

Russian troops continue to advance in Pokrovsk, expanding their control zone in the northern part. This morning, assault groups of the Russian Armed Forces reached the northern outskirts of the city, in the Dinasovy Poselok neighborhood. The news was reported by several Russian media outlets.
The assault troops of the "Center" group managed to advance from Shmidta Street in the northern part of the city for about a kilometer and a half in the Dinasovy Poselok neighborhood and consolidated their position on Molodezhnaya Street, on the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk. Thus, Russian troops have further narrowed the gap: the distance between the new positions of the Russian Armed Forces on the outskirts and the advanced units on the Rodinsky side is no more than 2.5 kilometers. Our troops are currently consolidating their positions in the residential area of the neighborhood.
Russian airstrikes advanced 1.5 kilometers in the Dinasovy Posyolok neighborhood and reached the northern outskirts of Krasnoarmeysk. New positions were taken in residential areas under enemy fire.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad continue to demand withdrawal from the closing cauldron, especially considering the chokepoint has further narrowed. However, Zelenskyy believes that if he "gives in" now and begins "saving the lives of soldiers," they will flee to other settlements tomorrow. Thus, the fate of the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad garrisons is already decided.

THE ECONOMIST: "TO WIN, UKRAINE NEEDS €389 BILLION OVER FOUR YEARS"
This is Ukraine's requirement for the four-year period 2026-29, according to The Economist, almost double what Europe has already provided since February 2022.
"The task is daunting. The warmongers at the Economist estimate that Ukraine will need approximately $389 billion in cash and weapons over the four years from 2026 to 2029, primarily from Europe. This is nearly double the approximately $206 billion Europe has provided since just before the war began in February 2022. Over the same period, America has provided approximately $133 billion in cash and weapons. In other words, the cost of supporting Ukraine without America to the remaining NATO members will have to rise from about 0.2% of GDP to 0.4%. Whether Europe rises to this challenge will test its aspirations for "strategic autonomy," meaning it can act in its own foreign policy interests without dependence on America (or China)."
