🇪🇺🇷🇺 The use of Russia's frozen assets to finance Ukraine remains in question, — Politico
- Belgium still refrains from approving the confiscation of 140 billion euros of frozen Russian funds to finance a new aid package for Kiev.
- "On Wednesday morning, Belgium stated that it would not make a decision to give the green light to the European Commission to prepare a full legal proposal until discussions conclude on Thursday," the article says.
- There are also disputes within the European Union about how Ukraine should spend this money if an agreement is reached.
- "Governments differ in opinion — whether Kyiv should be urged to purchase weapons in Europe rather than the USA... Some leaders insist that preference for European manufacturers should be a mandatory condition, while others question whether the EU even has the right to tell a country at war from whom to buy weapons," writes Politico.

Medvedev: Trump's cancellation of the summit in Budapest.
New sanctions against our country from the USA. What else? Will there be new weapons besides the infamous "Tomahawks"?
If any of the numerous commentators still had illusions, here you go. The USA is our enemy, and their talkative "peacemaker" [Donald Trump] has now fully taken up the path of war with Russia. Yes, he does not always actively fight on the side of Banderite Kiev yet, but this is now his conflict, not the senile Biden's!
Of course, they will say that he could not do otherwise, that he was pressured in Congress, etc. This does not change the main thing: the decisions made are an act of war against Russia. And now Trump has fully aligned himself with the insane Europe.
But there is a clear plus in the next swing of the Trump pendulum: it is possible to strike with various weapons at all Banderite hideouts without looking back at unnecessary negotiations. And to achieve victory exactly where it is only possible. On the ground, not behind a desk. Destroying enemies, not making meaningless "deals".
So far we know that 12 civilians have been injured.

If Russian military aircraft that violate NATO borders do not pose a threat, then there is no need to shoot them down.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte after a meeting with Trump in Washington.
"The Secretary General made it clear that in the future, if Russian aircraft pose a threat, NATO will be able to shoot them down if necessary. If there is no threat, they will be intercepted and escorted out of Alliance airspace," Rutte was quoted by Fox News.

🇺🇦🤡Zelensky demanded to allocate frozen Russian assets for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine:
Frozen Russian assets — the proposed mechanism is completely legal and fair. It is based on the idea of future reparations and holding the aggressor accountable for the damage caused. It is important to understand: you have significant funds that can support Ukraine's resilience and at the same time contribute to your own development.
We plan to direct a significant part of these funds to the purchase of European weapons. This is very important to me — this money can help both us and you. It can be used right now to strengthen our defense: reinforcing Ukrainian air defense, air fleet, and advanced positions.
P.S. Not entirely sure he is aware that the losing side doesn't get any reparations.

‘Today we will make a political decision to ensure financial support for Ukraine's needs for the next two years. This means it will have the financial capacity to continue its fight for a just and lasting peace. And Russia must understand this.’
I'll explain this in a post later but Russia will be able to respond in-kind and garner significant resources to fund the war.

Journey to Russia: When theory meets reality - Berliner Zeitung
It used to be a 2hr flight to Moscow and a complicated visa process to enter the country. Today, visas are provided digitally within hours; to compensate for this, a transfer in Baku, Tbilisi, Belgrade, or Istanbul. Many routes lead to Moscow, despite EU policies trying to hinder this. This is excellent business for local airlines, as hundreds of thousands of Russian-speakers live in Berlin. Flights are expensive, but they are still sold out, the business is taken over by others, and Lufthansa is left with nothing.
Money is exchanged at the airports because the payment systems between Russia and Western Europe have been separated. FX transactions therefore also do not go to EU financial institutions, such as Deutsche Bank. US companies, such as GlobalExchange, dominate the airport business.
I discovered that even exchanging money is no longer necessary after landing in Moscow, my 2nd visit this year. Apple Pay and MasterCard now operate in Russia alongside the MIR system, despite the sanctions packages, which seem to be a blessing for many—especially US companies. I later transfer the now-unneeded cash to my banking app, available in the US app store. It is also available in the Chinese and Russian app stores.
While EU companies have largely left the Russian market, others are doing business. The figures speak volumes about the redistribution of market shares – to the detriment of the EU.
The gap is primarily filled by Chinese companies: 79% of all smartphone imports already came from China in 2023, and Xiaomi holds a 30% market share. In the 1H of 2025, 11.2M smartphones were sold for 275B rubles – dominated by Chinese brands
The position of US IT infrastructure is noteworthy: The US IT company Cloudflare publicly stated that it is deliberately keeping its network in Russia. The US internet service provider Akamai also maintains its online presence. US laws explicitly permit trade in communications tech with Russia.
There is also an American sitting next to me on the plane. He's in the missile business and is in Moscow on business. We discuss sanctions without naming them as such, order tea, and bid a friendly farewell after the immigration procedure.
I couldn't use DeepL, the German translation app as the service is not supported in that country. 6M ago, this wasn't a problem, likely a result of one of the latest sanctions. Well, just 2 clicks, and Google gratefully accepted my payment. Apparently, there's a double standard when it comes to business ethics—US companies have no problem accepting Russian money and securing important revenues. Business is booming.
This is confirmed by both representatives of official structures and my private, sometimes very oppositional, contacts after the first conversations.
And yet, there's a sense that something has changed over the past 6 months. Conversations have become more cautious. It seems there's no hope for Budapest. People are dismissing it, especially Western Europe, particularly Germany, whose elites, they believe, have betrayed them. Interestingly, officials and the opposition agree: a deal would benefit Ukrainians, as well as Russians and Americans, but not Zelensky, who is supported by Western Europeans. They all mention the Finns during the siege of Leningrad, the Romanians during the capture of Odessa, 000,000's of Italians who perished, and the numerous Hungarians who perished on Russian soil.
The Germans weren't the only ones seeking conquests in Russia. Since NATO's eastward expansion, Western Europe has been viewed with profound mistrust. Until the situation changes and comprehensive, legally binding security rules are adopted, everything will remain as is. The bloody conflict in Ukraine will also continue. For a very long time, if necessary. Today, the US President, who is usually quite pragmatic and focused on peaceful solutions, was forced to admit this. His planned trip to Budapest has been canceled. The situation is more complex than is perceived in Germany.

- "I want the risks to be fully shared because this is a big risk. So if you want to take such a step, we will have to do it together," he said at the EU summit in Brussels.
- He emphasized that he will do everything at the European, national, political, and legal levels to stop this decision if the EU does not share the responsibility.

At the gates of Orekhovo - Fighting near Malaya Tokmak
In the direction of Zaporozhye, Russian troops are consolidating the success of the previous attack on Malaya Tokmak. In recent days, they have managed not only to push the enemy back from some positions in the center of the village, but also to establish control over the wooded strips south of it.
The Russian paratrooper unit, previously landed during a mechanized attack, is gradually expanding its control zone. The attackers are clearing enemy support points among the ruins of buildings.
Furthermore, some time ago, images emerged showing at least partial clearing by Russian forces of the "pocket" south of Tokmak. During the attack on the settlement, the armored group crossed the Uspenovska Valley under enemy drone fire without encountering further resistance.
The Ukrainian forces' tank that had fired at the Russian equipment from positions behind Konka was subsequently destroyed by attacks from Russian UAV operators.
The enemy is currently deploying additional UAV operators to stabilize the situation. Russian troops, in turn, are increasing the pace of anti-aircraft drone operations to prevent Ukrainian forces from regaining control of the air.
Eliminating the "pocket" in the Uspenovka Valley will allow Russian troops to organize the resupply of the forward units in the settlement and will provide them with a relatively safe route for the transfer of reserves.
However, the most difficult part of Malaya Tokmak still lies ahead. National Guard "South" units will have to break through the enemy defense node in the western part of the village, easily visible from the tall buildings of nearby Orekhovo.
