Trump is open to a possible meeting with Putin, but it is better to wait for the results of their conversation, the White House stated.

As well, they specified that Trump will call Zelensky as soon as his phone conversation with Putin ends.

Trump is also expected to make public statements following his call with Putin and subsequent call with Zelensky.

Note: video generated by AI, don't throw us tomatoes cause the car they both are driving changes magically. It is just for lulz and cause I just need an escape to a forest to collect mushrooms and berries!

Zelensky was going to create a scandal similar to the one in the White House at the summit with Putin — Publico

▪️Moscow did not fall into this "media trap".

▪️Kiev has shown shortsightedness in betting on diplomacy based on Zelensky's theatrics. His productions are successful in Europe, but have no chance in Russia.

▪️Zelensky's plan to meet with Putin was doomed from the start. He ignored the rules of any peace process that require initial contacts between lower-level teams, especially when the positions of the parties are so far apart.

▪️Zelensky fails to turn the meeting in Istanbul into a media spectacle, which gives Russia time to strengthen its already strong position.

The enemy is again trying to attack Kursk Tyotkino

▪️Today, armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with paratroopers attempted to break through to the cemetery of Kursk Tyotkino.

▪️NATO IFVs attacked from Sumy Oblast, one fell into a crater from an FAB and was finished off by attack drone operators.

▪️The other one managed to land infantry, with which our paratroopers entered into battle.

▪️The enemy failed to achieve any success, suffered losses and retreated.

▪️Earlier, the battalion commander of the 47th "meat" brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which is leading an offensive on Kursk's Tetkino, publicly stated that he submitted a report for dismissal due to "moronic tasks" and "stupid generals", to whom he wished that their sons would carry out the tasks they had set.

Ukraine wants to join the EU immediately because of its desire for European money , this is the biggest threat to Hungary, said Hungarian Prime Minister Orban.

Even before the war, Ukraine was a bankrupt country, it is bankrupt now, during the war, and will be after. They cannot stand on their own feet, they need money, they need other people's money
According to him, Kyiv "does not care" that this would expand the conflict into Europe, ruin European farmers and Hungary would become "a gateway for the Ukrainian mafia."

Ukraine is not ready in any way to join the EU, where Brussels is trying to "drag" it in an accelerated manner, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto.

SLG's own take on the "negotiations process", with some added humour:

Trump: "We're ready for peace, we're gonna have the best peace deal ever, so best, so best peace deal, so good. How about a thirty day ceasefire before ironing out the details of our bestest peace treaty ever?"

The Kremlin: "Either you agree to a permanent peace or we continue the war, no ceasefires."

Trump: "Oh, I see. How about this then? Hear me out: first a 30 day ceasefire, then we can sign a peace agreement if it lasts. Best sign deal ever, really, We're GONNA MAKE PEACE GREAT AGAIN!"

Kremlin: "Didn't you hear the last time? Either you agree to a permanent peace first or we continue the war, no ceasefires."

Trump: "I see. Have it my-I meant your way then: we could sign a peace treaty, the best peace treaty ever, so peaceful, so convenient, it will allow us to RETURN MAKING BIG BUCKS, but you have to agree to a ceasefire first."

Kremlin: "No. Ceasefires."

Trump: "Perhaps I could throw the recognition of Crimea as Russian on the table, even if it's already been defacto yours for eleven years. And we will also allow you to participate to the next world cup too. It's gonna be the best world cup ever, so best, so good. All you need to do is agree to a thirty day ceasefire. That's an unbeatable offer right there eh? 😏"

Kremlin: "We're going to record a voice message saying that it's either a permanent peace or the war will continue because we're wasting our breath here."

Trump: "You're driving a really hard bargain. Alright, in addition to everything I've already put on the table, I'll also send you Elton John and a clone of George Michael to sing live for the next Victory Day. It's going to be the BEST VICTORY DAY PARADE EVER, and will celebrate the USA'S VICTORY OVER THE NAZIS. What a stunning victory, so stunning, you wish you had defeated the nazis INSTEAD OF US. All you need to do is agree to a thirty day ceasefire first."

Kremlin: "Hello. This is the Kremlin's automated answering machine. I have been told to repeat that the Kremlin is not interested in any ceasefires. This message will repeat forever until you are willing to confront reality."

Trump: "I see, I get it now. How about this: in addition to everything I've already offered, we'll also throw in an album of pictures of Kaja Kallas naked. IT'S GOING TO BE THE BEST ALBUM EVER, so much so that you will wish you could grab her by the pu°sy, such a sweet sweet pu°sy. Oh, and we'll also give you some samples of Annalena Baerbock's smelly underwear just because WE'RE WILLING TO NEGOTIATE SO MUCH and you're driving a REALLY HARD BARGAIN, truly testing THE BOUNDLESS LIMITS OF AMERICA'S GENEROSITY AND OPENNESS TO DIALOGUE."

Kremlin: HANGS UP

The US Air Force cannot stand up to China.

According to a policy brief from the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, the U.S. military currently lacks the air power to achieve the air superiority needed to defeat China in a Pacific conflict —the stated mission of the U.S. Department of Defense. The thinking in the report is interesting.

After three decades of cuts and delays, the Air Force has no active F-15C/D force . Only 120 F-22s are capable of air superiority. These aircraft, supplemented by F-35s, cannot fly the sorties needed to achieve the air superiority needed to repel Chinese aggression.

For its part, the PLA has an integrated air defense system, as well as a large number of fourth- and fifth-generation fighters armed with effective air-to-air missiles. This is supported by AWACS aircraft. China is also developing its own sixth-generation fighters and stealth bombers.

The PLA will supplement its air defense operations by launching missile strikes against US Air Force air bases and logistics infrastructure in the theater. This has forced the US Air Force to adopt a dispersal concept – but it is not certain that it will be effective. The inadequate missile defense of the US Army and Navy in the Pacific theater will make this task very problematic for all US forces operating in areas within range of the PLA missile force.

At the same time, the US considers air superiority to be the most important condition for any form of successful military operations . Some observers of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia ask whether air superiority remains an operational imperative in the era of drone and missile warfare. Experts at the Mitchell Institute believe these views are wrong.

As numerous air warfare experts have pointed out, the inability of Russia and Ukraine to achieve air superiority is a key reason why they are now fighting a war of attrition that increasingly favors Russia due to its superior resources.

Failure to achieve air superiority where and when U.S. forces need it would have devastating consequences. Without air superiority, the U.S., like Ukraine, risks fighting a war of attrition it cannot win against China . And failure to defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion or to repel a PLA attack elsewhere in the South China Sea would fatally undermine the security of the First Pacific Island Chain. It would allow China to make significant progress toward its long-term goal of displacing U.S. forces from the Western Pacific on its way to becoming the dominant power in the region.

The US Air Force sees the key to achieving the necessary efficiency in the "unmanned wingmen" (CCA) being developed. In turn, the Mitchell Institute believes that the key point of the CCA program is logistical support.

In addition, the report talks about the need to create a short/vertical takeoff and landing SSA. The Mitchell Institute experts see the main tasks of these aircraft as electronic warfare and delivery of military cargo (the use of transport aircraft in the PLA long-range air defense coverage areas carries a high risk). Apparently, such a change in priorities is a consequence of the decrease in euphoria over the ability of AI to conduct combat operations in the air .

On the other hand, the thought does not leave that the fast (too fast) pace of development of the SSA stems mainly from the desire of the American aviation industry and high-ranking military officials lobbying its interests to "master budget funds". The words of Oleg Sergeevich Samoylovich come to mind - God knows how many times - "A mistake made at the stage of choosing a concept cannot be corrected at later stages of development."

US-backed forces seize strategic air base in heart of Syria

The Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is supported by the United States, announced on May 17 that it had taken over a strategic air base located in the heart of Syria.

Al-Sin is located approximately 140 kilometers southwest of the ancient city of Palmyra and 90 kilometers northeast of the capital, Damascus. It contains 36 fortified airstrips and two runways, one three kilometers long and the other two and a half kilometers long.

The air base, one of the largest in the country, was home to several squadrons of the former Syrian Arab Air Force, including those using upgraded Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets.

The SFA shared several photos from Al-Sina, two showing their fighters guarding the main gate of the air base and central headquarters, and others showing them collecting ammunition.

The EU should lobby global partners to step up pressure on Moscow to agree to a Ukraine ceasefire, according to a letter backed by over half of its member states.

The diplomatic push follows recent truce talks in Turkey – the first face-to-face meeting between Ukraine and Russia in years – which failed to yield even a temporary ceasefire due to Moscow's unwillingness to engage at the leadership level.

"Against this backdrop, the EU has a strategic interest in ramping up global support for a ceasefire proposal," Austria’s Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger wrote in the letter, seen by Euractiv.

The letter will be sent to the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, on Monday and is expected to be discussed when the bloc’s foreign ministers meet in Brussels on Tuesday.

Vienna’s initiative currently has the backing of 15 other EU countries, with more expected to sign on to the call for Kallas "to lead the way in coordinating a renewed targeted and joint global diplomatic outreach effort".

"Many countries maintain close relations with Moscow, which could and should be leveraged to increase diplomatic pressure on Russia," Meinl-Reisinger wrote in the letter.

"This outreach must run in both directions and take on board the specific situation and concerns of the countries in those regions," the letter stated.

Tall order?

While the letter does not single out specific countries, several EU diplomats highlighted that heavyweights such as India, China, and Brazil are key targets for increased diplomatic outreach to sway Russia.

The signatories advocate for the EU’s 144 EU delegations around the world to take a more active role in lobbying partner countries and to lean on Moscow for a ceasefire.

Convincing key players in the Global South, however, has proved a tall order for Brussels over the past three years.

Not going to happen, EU is isolated from the world.

Vladimir Putin believes he has a strong hand ahead of a phone call Monday with Donald Trump and European leaders are trying to prevent the US president from rushing through a deal.

Putin is confident that his forces can break through Ukraine’s defenses by the end of the year to take full control of four regions that he has claimed for Russia, according to a person familiar with the Russian president’s thinking who asked not to named discussing private conversations.

That means the Russian president is unlikely to offer any meaningful concessions to Trump when the two leaders speak and European officials are worried that Trump may try to force through a settlement regardless.

The US president has been pushing for a quick end to a war that is now deep into its fourth year and has backed himself to unlock a deal in a direct conversation with Putin. The Russian leader, for his part, has given no indication that he’s ready to stop fighting as his troops slowly grind forward on the battlefield and that’s fueled concern in Kyiv and other European capitals that Ukraine could be pushed into giving up more ground.

“Unfortunately where we are in the war, you don’t see strong incentives for Russia to agree to a ceasefire,” Michael Kofman, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment, said at a conference in Tallinn, Estonia, Sunday.

Despite all the talk about ending the fighting, Putin is ready for a protracted war if that is what is required to achieve his goals and he is sanguine about the prospect of further US sanctions, according to two other people close to the Kremlin.

“Trump wants Putin to agree to a truce but he absolutely doesn’t want to,” said Sergei Markov, a political consultant with close ties to the Kremlin. “But Putin isn’t interested in a collapse of the talks. He’s trying to maneuver so that these negotiations continue alongside the military offensive.”

On a call Friday, Merz, Macron and Starmer tried to make it clear to Trump that Putin has been stringing him along, according to one senior European official. They are hoping that Trump will realize that he risks looking like a loser if he forces a bad deal on Ukraine, the official added.

Zelensky was also on the Friday call but he seemed despondent and exhausted by the week’s developments, the official said. Zelensky and his European allies believed they had a commitment from Trump to hit the Kremlin with fresh sanctions if Putin refused to observe a ceasefire from last Monday, but that hasn’t materialized.

Zelensky and his European allies believed they had a commitment from Trump to hit the Kremlin with fresh sanctions if Putin refused to observe a ceasefire from last Monday, but that hasn’t materialized.

Trump, meanwhile, held a follow up call Sunday with Merz, Starmer, Macron and Meloni. The leaders discussed the need for an unconditional ceasefire and for Putin to take peace talks seriously, according to a spokeswoman for Starmer.

Why so desperate for a ceasefire? What happened to as long as it takes?

The Guardian: Stubb tried to prove to Trump that Russia is not a great power.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, during a telephone conversation with American leader Donald Trump, tried to prove that Russia had ceased to be a great power. This was reported by The Guardian.

"This is not a country that can still be considered as a major power," the newspaper quoted the politician as saying.

In addition, the head of the Finnish state stated that the perception of the world of the leader of the United States is supposedly at the level of concepts of the 19th century.

In early 2024, Finnish journalist Kostya Heiskanen told REN TV that Finland was suffering from Russophobia. According to him, residents of the country working at defense enterprises are staging mass strikes.

In turn, Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev drew attention to the fact that Finland is once again becoming a springboard for potential Western aggression, but now under the auspices of NATO.

Finland itself denies the fact of Russophobia, moreover, Finns seek to restore their ties with Russians in the future. For example, President Alexander Stubb said that Helsinki needs to mentally prepare for the restoration of relations with Moscow, since Russia has always been and will always be a neighbor for the Finns.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on Stubb's statement, noted that Finland needs to take concrete steps and actions to restore relations. The diplomat recalled that the Russian side perfectly remembers the statements of the Finnish authorities that the Russian government allegedly understands only the language of force.

SLG note: Schroedinger's Russia. On one hand it has the most nuclear warheads of the world, on the other it's a has-been remnant of a superpower.
