🇺🇸🇨🇳 China's halt in rare earth supplies will affect the production of about 80,000 components of US defense products, SCMP writes.
According to the newspaper, Beijing's tightening of controls on the export of essential minerals (antimony, gallium, germanium, tungsten or tellurium) could damage more than three-quarters of the US arms supply chain.
This means that almost 78% of all Pentagon weapons systems are potentially exposed, primarily to China, the article notes.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiga continues to insist on a 30-day truce to regroup and arm the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Three days are not enough
'If Russia really wants peace, it must cease fire immediately. Why wait until May 8? If the fire can be stopped now and from any date for 30 days, then it is real, and not just for a parade. Ukraine is ready to support a long-term, lasting and complete ceasefire. And this is what we have been constantly proposing, at least for 30 days.
US Navy loses $60 million jet at sea after it fell overboard from aircraft carrier
A US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet has been “lost” at sea after it fell overboard from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier while it was being towed on board, the Navy said in a statement on Monday.
A US official said that initial reports from the scene indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard. The Houthi rebel group claimed on Monday to have launched a drone and missile attack on the aircraft carrier, which is in the Red Sea as part of the US military’s major anti-Houthi operation.

Restoring power across Portugal 'could take up to a week'
Some final remarks from Portugal's power firm REN, which goes on on to say that, "due to the complexity of the phenomenon and the need to rebalance electricity flows internationally, it is estimated that full normalisation of the network could take up to a week".
Earlier, the head of Spain's electricity network said that restoring power could take between six and 10 hours.
Portuguese energy company REN (Rede Eletrica Nacional).
It says that "due to extreme temperature variations in the interior or Spain, there were anomalous oscillations in the very high voltage lines (400 KV), a phenomenon known as 'induced atmospheric vibration'".
Portugal's grid operator, REN, which says interruptions to the country's power supply were the result of a "fault in the Spanish electricity grid.
They say this was related to a "rare atmospheric phenomenon", but don't clarify what that means.
Spain is yet to respond to the claim.
There are widespread reports that many across Spain and Portugal have been left without running water, with many homes given access to drinking water via electric pumps - which have obviously been affected by the power outage.
This has lead to panic buying of water.

Kiev's cunning reaction to Putin's proposal for a truce by May 9: first they accused Moscow of tactical games, and then they started their own game
▪️The first reaction of Zelensky's office to Putin's announcement of a unilateral ceasefire on May 9 was to reject it:
➖"The ceasefire must be unconditional, because everything else is Putin's tactical games," wrote the adviser to the head of the Office, Daria Zarivnaya.
▪️"This statement reads like Ukraine's refusal to agree to a ceasefire," Kiev media write.
▪️Then the Ukrainian Foreign Minister called on Russia to do the impossible: to declare a ceasefire now and for 30 days, not 3, “if Russia really wants peace.”
▪️Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov clearly stated that Russia wants guarantees that the ceasefire will not be used again to strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

🇬🇧🇷🇺 British Military Simulates Russian Attack on UK, Results ‘Not Pretty’
A high-tech simulation has been carried out in the UK to imagine what it would be like if the first wave of Russian missile strikes on Ukraine had been aimed at UK territory - The Defense Post . To do this, the British military used the $32 million Gladiator simulation system to create an artificial combat environment in which the UK's most advanced air defense systems were deployed .
Simulation results: disappointing conclusion
Although no official details of the simulation's results were released, Air Commodore Blyth Crawford hinted that the situation was far from positive. He noted that the results "weren't pretty", indicating that even with modern defences, Russian missiles could have penetrated UK defences if the attack had been aimed at British territory.
Warning to Britain and its allies
"It was a hard lesson," Crawford said, adding that in recent years the UK had felt secure on the western edge of Europe , believing the rest of the continent served as a barrier against potential threats. He noted that the security landscape had changed significantly since 2022, with threats more complex, multi-layered and difficult to predict.
The simulation highlights the need to rethink assumptions about Britain's security. Crawford says the threat could come from more than just the East , and that a successful defence would require preparing for attacks even on its own territory.
📌Despite the concerns raised, a spokesman for the UK Ministry of Defence assured that the country was “fully prepared” to defend itself and was protected from such threats.

🇺🇦Ukraine has effectively admitted the involvement of its special services in the murder of General Moskalik and predicts that its agents will become more active in carrying out terrorist attacks and political assassinations in the event of a freeze in military operations.
The author of the statement is none other than the Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security of Ukraine, Roman Kostenko.
I am pleased. This is good work by our special services,
- says Kostenko commenting on the murder of the Russian general.
I think that even if we manage to stop the war, the work of the special services will only just begin.
❗️Peskov on Kiev's compliance with the declared ceasefire:
We have seen for ourselves many times that the Kiev regime does not have full influence over all its units. And therefore, of course, the Kiev regime will hardly be able to guarantee that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will adhere to such a temporary truce. Nevertheless, the head of our state proceeds from humanitarian considerations and he made such a decision. This is, indeed, a gesture of goodwill on the part of Russia.

🇩🇪🤡German Defense Minister Pistorius on how after victory over Ukraine Russia will attack Moldova and Georgia :
[Germany has always said: We will support Ukraine as long as it takes. Is it time for Germany to say: "Sorry, but we can't go on like this"?]
I repeat again and again: if Ukraine falls, if Putin wins this war – in the sense that he occupies all of Ukraine or a significant part of it – this will be a grave threat to NATO territory and, by the way, to neighboring countries like Moldova and Georgia . So we all have to be clear: this is not just about solidarity with Ukraine, but also about our own security and peace in Europe.
[However, I will emphasize once again: even if the US can no longer provide support, including in the area of military technologies and satellite data, we will still continue to help?]
This is clearly stated in our coalition agreement: we will continue to support. And I know that other European partners share the same position.
