In February 1943, the Soviet landing forces created a 30 km long bridgehead in the city and heroically held their positions until the arrival of the main troops who liberated Novorossiysk on September 16, 1943.
🕯 During the liberation of the city, more than 23,000 Soviet soldiers gave their lives.
🎖 On September 14, 1973 the city was awarded the honorary title of Hero City.
