Looking to rent a ~26’ sailboat for a few hours - midcoast Maine
Hey everyone. My partner and I will be in midcoast Maine during the second half of July and are hoping to rent a sailboat (around 26’) for a few hours of day sailing.
We’ve got lots of experience-lived aboard our own sailboat for six years and have logged thousands of miles offshore and coastal. We’re very comfortable handling a boat on our own.
If anyone has a lead on a boat available for a short rental (private or commercial), we’d appreciate any pointers.

I’m 70. Just passed ASA 101. Want to buy myself a present.
Got a late start, training on 30’ Catalinas in San Francisco Bay out of Modern Sailing in Sausalito. The boats are fully outfitted with safety equipment but I want to start accumulating key items for personal use.
Here’s are my initial ideas. Any suggestions?
- SpinLock Deck Vest
- Knee pads/elbow pads (pants with built in pads?)
- sailing jacket (HH?)
- sailing knife
- gloves
- backup hand held radio?
- PLB?
- rigging bag?
- backup boat hook (don’t ask!)

Reporting
The topic is reporting. The context is the rules. You'll see the rules for r/sailing in the sidebar to the right on desktop. On mobile, for the top level of the sub touch the three dots at the top and then 'Learn more about this community.'
Our rules are simple:
1. No Self Promotion, Vlogs, Blogs, or AI
2. Posts must be about sailing
3. Be nice or else
There is more explanation under each rule title. There is room for moderator discretion and judgement. One of the reasons for this approach is to avoid armchair lawyers groping for cracks between specific rules. We're particularly fond of "Be nice or else."
There are only so many mods, and not all of us are particularly active. We depend on the 800k+ member community to help. Reporting is how you help. If you see a post or comment that you think violates the rules, please touch the report button and fill out the form. Reports generate a notification to mods so we can focus our time on posts and comments that members point us toward. We can't be everywhere and we certainly can't read everything. We depend on you to help.
If three or more members report the same post or comment, our automoderator aka automod will remove the post from public view and notify the mod team again for human review. Nothing permanent is done without human review. Fortunately y'all are generally well behaved and we can keep up.
Please remember that mods are volunteers. We have lives, and work, and like to go sailing. Responses will not be instantaneous.
On review of your report, the mod who reads the report may not agree with you that there is a violation. That's okay. We value the report anyway. You may not see action but that doesn't mean there wasn't any. We may reach out to someone suggesting a change in behavior in the future when something falls in a gray area. You wouldn't see that.
For the record, all reports are anonymous. Reddit Inc. admins (paid employees) can trace reports back to senders but mods do not see senders.
