This influx of tourists was a ray of hope for the locals. Tourism had directly benefited sectors like hospitality, transport, and handicrafts, with local businesses such as hotels, shikara operators, and artisans seeing increased demand.
Surge in tourism catalyzed employment and development. Tourism sector employs 70,000 people annually, with 50–60% of the population engaged in tourism-related activities.
But the terror attack yesterday jeopardized the security of tourists and the future of local Kashmiris.

As per India TV-- "The reconnaissance mission is believed to have been carried out between April 1 and 7. Sources from central agencies indicate that more than three terrorists may have been involved in executing the assault.
Among those present was an Army officer visiting the site with his family; he reportedly acted swiftly to protect others and took cover during the chaos. The attackers specifically asked people their names before shooting at them.
