52 years ago on 09 December 1971 (Yesterday) INS Khukri was the part of the fleet to the west of India. It was patrolling near Diu. When it was torpedoed twice by PNS Hangor.
Both hits were midship and below the waterline and the ship went down. Capt MN Mulla was the captain of INS Khukri.
Capt MN Mulla was a Kashmiri born in Gorakhpur on 15 May 1926. He joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in January 1946 and was trained in United Kingdom.
He was commissioned in the Royal Indian Navy 01 May 1948. A thorough professional, he served on various ships in various capacities rising up the ladder.
When 1971 war came about he was in command two ships with a mission to locate and hunt down submarines as part of the western fleet. While on station at 2050h or 08:50 PM 40 miles from Diu his ship was struck by torpedoes.
Realising that INS Khukri was sinking, he unhesitatingly gave the most difficult order of ‘Abandon Ship’.
His wife was being told about Capt Mahendra Nath Mulla’s ship being hit and sinking, she was quoted by the Times of India as saying ‘Mera gharwala nahi aayega. Wo jis mitti ke bane hain, kisi ko peechhe chhod kar nahi aane wale’ (My husband won’t return. He won’t leave any of his men behind).
Six officers and 61 men survived but 18 officers and 178 sailors laid down their lives for India. The Captain gave away last remaining Life vest (His own) to a young sailor asking him to save his life and not worry about him.
Capt Mahendra Nath Mulla was last seen calmly smoking a cigarette as the ship was going down.
This is the mettle of our soldiers irrespective of the colour of their uniforms.

Wreckage of An-32 of the IAF that went missing on 22 Jul 2016 found
An Indian Air Force An-32 aircraft (registration K-2743), had gone missing over the Bay of Bengal on 22 July 2016 during an op mission. 29 Personnel were on board this flight.
Large scale Search and Rescue operations by aircraft and ships could not locate any missing personnel or the aircraft debris.
The National Institute of Ocean Technology which functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, had recently deployed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) with deep sea exploration capability at the last known location of the missing An-32.
This search was conducted at a depth of 3400 m using multiple payloads, including a multi-beam SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging), synthetic aperture SONAR and high resolution photography. Analysis of search images had indicated the presence of debris of a crashed aircraft on the sea bed approximately, 140 nautical miles (approx. 310 Km) from the Chennai coast.
The search images were scrutinised and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft. This discovery at the probable crash site, with no other recorded history of any other missing aircraft report in the same area, points to the debris as possibly belonging to the crashed IAF An-32 (K-2743).

🔴 The Saudi Royal Court issued a statement on Dec 7th announcing that Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz bin Bandar Al Saud had passed away.
According to RT, Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz was the son of Prince Bandar and the grandson of the first Saudi monarch, King Abdulaziz.
Born in 1961, he was a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Saudi Air Force and served as assistant #intelligence chief at the #GIP, the Saudi intelligence agency, from 2004 to 2012.
While the court’s statement did not reveal a cause of death, Lebanon’s Al Mashhad news outlet reported that the prince died when his F-15 fighter jet crashed during a training exercise with the air force earlier on Thursday.
The Saudi Press Agency said— funeral prayer will be performed on December 8, following the Aser prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
