The IDF has stated that no Palestinian faction personnel were present in the area. Thus, the explosive was likely detonated via pressure-plate.

The killing of 2 IDF soldiers, and injuring of 3 via an "attack" which resulted in the IDF carrying out a bombing campaign killing 44 Palestinians in alleged retaliation 2 days ago, was also caused by the detonation of an unexploded ordinance upon an IDF's "D9 Caterpillar" Bulldozer in southern Gaza.
