RB Leipzig v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Chelsea are ready to make a move for Simons, so Bayern is doing what they can to see what his situation is. The transfer drama continues for Bayern Munich. As things stand, they have still only brought in Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof this summer, and their big miss so far was losing out to Liverpool for the signature of Florian Wirtz. In the Wirtz fallout, Bayern has been trying to navigate their way through a laundry list of alternative options, combined with their troubled pursuit of VfB Stuttgaart striker Nick Woltemade — the Swabians are reluctant to listen to any and all offers that Bayern have lodged thus far.RB Leipzig winger Xavi Simons has long since been one of the names on the list of alternative options to Wirtz, but Bayern’s focus on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz has lent itself to the Dutch international to pursue other options. Chelsea is heavily linked with singing him this summer as the player himself has made it clear that he is entirely open to leaving Leipzig before the end of this window. Per information from Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg and Philipp Hinze (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern have very recently held calls regarding Simons to try to get a better understanding of what his current situation is. Essentially, Bayern want to keep the Simons door open because they are aware of the fact that provisional negotiations between Chelsea and Leipzig have already been started and that an official bid from the FIFA Club World Cup champions is expected soon. RB Leipzig v Liverpool- UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD2 Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also already reported that talks regarding personal terms between Simons and Chelsea are already underway, so time is truly running out for Bayern. Chelsea have also just agreed on a deal to sign defender Jarrel Hato from Ajax and they’re also in the process of trying to sort out a deal with Feyenoord for defender Renato Veiga, who Bayern had previously shown some interest in. On the negative side, this is looking like Simons will be another missed chance for Bayern, but on the plus side, he was not the only alternative Wirtz option. Hugo Ekitike’s arrival at Liverpool could also expedite negotiations for Luis Diaz.

Germany - Spain Photo by Sebastian Christoph Gollnow/picture alliance via Getty Images The Germans gave it their all. It was not enough. Jersey Swap: Aitana BonmatíWho else? The FC Barcelona star has had a difficult month but was the hero tonight. She improved as the game wore on, pulling the strings for Spain in the midfield while Germany did a good job of corralling the forward line. In a game that yearned for just that little bit of magic dust from someone, anyone, she delivered with a crisp turn and laser finish. Match-winner.Spain takes the lead on a beauty from Aitana Bonmatí— CJ Fogler (@cjzero.bsky.social) 2025-07-23T21:31:46.968ZDer Kaiser: Rebecca Knaakandré (@838carlisle.bsky.social) 2025-07-23T20:38:48.331ZKnaak had a knack for being in the right place at the right time, while also getting on the ball a lot in different areas of the pitch and being tidy in the little possession Germany had. She embodied the fierce spirit of the stingy German defense.Fußballgott: Elisa SenßSomehow, Elisa Senß has still managed not to get booked in this tournament. Physical in the challenge and key to Germany’s defensive efforts, Senß also supplied a number of nice balls forward to get the threat quickly flowing the other way. She has been a warrior for her team throughout.Der Bomber: Jule BrandGermany’s most dangerous player on the day and probably of the tournament. Brand was at the heart of many of Germany’s most dangerous forays forward, though the stats and the final scoreline won’t reflect it. Out on the wing or driving inside through the midfield...Brand kept Spain on their toes. Meisterin of the Match: Ann-Katrin BergerIt had to be. The Gotham FC stalwart gave it her all yet again, and it was almost enough to carry Germany through to penalties. Berger’s phenomenal shot-stopping was key to Germany being level at the half, and she would finish the match with eight saves of Spain’s nine shots on target. The one big mistake — Berger expecting a cross and waving to her defenders as Bonmatí fired quickly past her at the near post — was unfortunately the dagger. Berger gave us a beautiful tournament, and had a sweet moment after the game in which she swapped jerseys with NWSL club teammate Esther González. Good show, AKB. Standing O.

Chelsea v Liverpool - Carabao Cup Final Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images Will a deal get done this week? According to a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s Plan B in the event of a failure in procuring Liverpool FC’s Luis Diaz would be OLympique Lyon winger Malick Fofana: Bayern are really interested in Malick Fofana. The Belgian winger can be Bayern’s plan B if the Luis Díaz deal collapses, but he can also be an option for Liverpool if Diaz’s move to Bayern goes through. First of all, Bayern’s top priority is to close the deal for Díaz as soon as possible, with the player open to the moveBayern are now set to submit an ‘important’ bid to Liverpool to convince them to sell. If Liverpool open the door, Bayern are happy to go strong and close the deal. Otherwise, Fofana is a strong option for Bayern. At 20-years-old, Fofana would be much younger and likely much cheaper than Diaz. Judging by the fan reaction to the Diaz news, there could be a large swath of fans who would actually wants Fofana more. With a move for Hugo Ekitiké getting close, the reality is that Bayern Munich is likely going to get Luis Diaz…whether fans like it or not. Bayern Munich has reportedly also exited talks with VfB Stuttgart to focus on a deal for Diaz. It might also just be time for Bayern Munich to rip off the band-aid and sell Kim Min-jae, João Palhinha, and Sacha Boey. Finally, we have a note Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO and his recent slam on Bayern. Germany - Spain Photo by Sebastian Christoph Gollnow/picture alliance via Getty Images Out at the semis, but heads held high. Germany does have two ways to playGermany entered the tournament playing adventurous, high-pressing and attacking football and ended having spent their last couple of games sitting in the stubbornest of defensive shells — and playing their best football in the process. Of course, Christian Wück & co. had to adjust to the situations and the matchups, but they did so effectively. Credit to the team for their adaptability.Final third decision-making: still MIAGermany’s staunch efforts defensively were ultimately wasted on the day. Hard-won ball recoveries and interceptions launched the Germans into numerous potent-looking transitions...but the timing and selection of the final pass or shot was off all day, and if truth be told, not quite right all tournament long. This time they weren’t a woman down, either. But whether it was Giovanna Hoffmann slipping offside or Klara Bühl or Jule Brand missing that final pass or cross opportunity, the Germans haven’t clicked.Battered, bruised, but proudFor all the disappointment, this was an effort to proud of. Germany lost captain Giulia Gwinn in the first group stage match and have dealt with an improbably and almost comically disruptive chain of injuries and absences, mostly to right-backs or players cursed to be sent out in that position. They still played the tournament’s most frighteningly good team in Spain to a dead draw for 113 minutes — while coming off another game that made it to a penalty shootout. You can’t say they didn’t give everything.Future looks brightA head coach that adjusted when he needed. Rising young players at left- and right-back, along with two of the game’s best at left- and right-wing. It wasn’t perfect but there is a a lot of muscle to flex here. Carlotta Wamser — 21. Franziska Kett — 20. Even Gwinn (26), Bühl (24), and Brand (22) should have their peaks ahead of them. There will be due soul-searching after this tournament but it was a fairly promising run. The pieces should be here for Germany to remain a force in the years to come.

VfB Stuttgart v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Simon Hofmann/Bundesliga/Bundesliga Collection via Getty Images The Stuttgart manager could very well leave Nick Woltemade out of the squad to face Bayern in the Supercup next month. After having two opening bids rejected by VfB Stuttgart, Bayern Munich has temporarily tabled their pursuit of striker Nick Woltemade. The striker has made it clear that he would like to leave for Bayern but Stuttgart have proven that they will remain resilient in driving a hard bargain and not letting their striker go for less than they want to. His current market value is 30 million euros, but even Bayern’s latest offer of just shy of 50 million was not enough to get Stuttgart to budge. As such, Bayern’s focus for now is on trying to land Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, but the Premier League champions have also been insistent that the Colombian is not for sale, though that language coming out of Merseyside was prior to them securing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ironically enough, well before the summer transfer window ends, Bayern face Stuttgart in the DFL-Supercup on August 16th, which is now known as the Franz Beckenbauer Cup. Per information from Bild journalist Julian Agardi (via @iMiaSanMia), Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß is very much considering the idea of not playing Woltemade in the Supercup against Bayern at the MHP Arena. Even that does wind up happening, there’s certainly different ways of interpreting it. VfB Stuttgart - FC Augsburg Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images For starters, Woltemade is only expected back in training on the 28th of this month after some time off following his involvement with the German U-21s at the U-21 EUROs, so he won’t have much training time in his legs prior to the Supercup. In what would be a more cynical approach to viewing this, Hoeneß could be, in a way, punishing his player for being so brazen about his desire to join Bayern, but most of the noise coming out of the press is solely because of that fact that he is linked with the German Rekordmeister and is at the heart of transfer news in Germany this summer. Either way, there is still a lot that could transpire before now and August 16th. Bayern could wind up coming in with an offer that Stuttgart will want to listen to, or Bayern could wind up deciding to just walk away altogether and keep focusing their transfer efforts elsewhere in the market.

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Will this move happen? According to a report from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Olympique Marseille are keeping in contact with Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey: Olympique Marseille are maintaining contact with Sacha Boey in case their proposed move for Timothy Weah from Juventus fell through.Boey’s status in Bavarian is wide open. Boey seems to be behind Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić on the club’s depth chart and is considered to be expendable by some reports. A move to Marseille could be just the right move to kickstart the player’s confidence once again. So much is going on in the land of Bayern Munich these days....Thomas Müller looks like he is headed to LAFC, but there could be bigger issues than that loss of personnel in Bavaria. There could be a disconnect in Bayern Munich’s office between the executives, the supervisory board, and the coaches, while VfB Stuttgart could be just as wacky as Bayern Munich these days. Let’s talk about why and also catch up on injured stars Hiroki Itō, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala! You can get all that and more on the latest edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show! Real Madrid CF v Borussia Dortmund: Quarter Final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images Is BVB going to retain a key player? According to a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund is attempting to keep Chelsea FC midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka after hosting the 21-year-old on loan during the second half of last season: ⚫️ As reported in our show on Friday, there is still no agreement between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea regarding Carney #Chukwuemeka.Chelsea’s clear intention is a sale, not a loan. It remains unclear whether this would be interesting or feasible for #BVB.Chukwuemeka is held in high regard at Chelsea, but their roster is overloaded.
