1. FC Union Berlin v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images It’s make or break season for Paul Wanner. Recent reports have indicated that Paul Wanner will finally get the chance to earn playing time at Bayern Munich during the preseason, but the youngster might be deterred from the competition if the club inks VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade and Liverpool FC’s Luis Diaz. If those moves happen, Wanner would be inclined to take another loan per Tz journalists Philipp Kessler, Hanna Raif, and Mano Bonke (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) — and Hamburger SV would be interested in hosting the 19-year-old: HSV is the latest club to show interest in a loan deal for Paul Wanner. A personal meeting between the player and the club has already taken place. For the time being, Wanner is expected to stay at Bayern and get a chance to prove himself to Vincent Kompany during pre-season following Jamal Musiala’s injury. However, if the club manages to secure the desired signings of Nick Woltemade and Luis Diaz, Wanner’s playing time prospects will be drastically reduced. The 19-year old is rather skeptical about staying at Bayern next season.Whatever happens with Wanner, he needs to be in a position where he can play regularly, take on responsibility, and actually have the ball (unlike his experience at Heidenheim). Make no mistake, this is a make or break season for the youngster as it pertains to his future with Bayern Munich. The careers of Liverpool FC’s Luis Diaz and Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl could end up intertwined if the transfer move goes through. Meanwhile, is the rest of the Bundesliga sick of being bullied by Bayern Munich and is the league bleeding too much talent? Also, Paul Wanner and Lennart Karl could be in line for opportunities during the preseason...can the youngster take advantage of those chances? Finally, the father of Florian Wirtz talks through how the decision to join Liverpool played out and you can hear how HBO screwed BPW this week. VfB Stuttgart - FC Augsburg Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images Time for some action? The summer transfer window is roughly 25% over and Bayern Munich has not made much progress on player acquisitions and player sales.Aside of some loan movement for academy players, the Bavarians have succeeded in bringing in midfielder Tom Bischof and center-back Jonathan Tah, but have only managed to sell Mathys Tel, serially unhappy winger Nestory Irankunda, and academy products like Gabriel Vidović and Frans Krätzig, who were deemed to have no future in Bavaria In addition to those moves, Bayern Munich also let free agents Eric Dier and Leroy Sané walk away as well. So…what does Bayern Munich NEED to do, let’s take a look…Get VfB Stuttgart’s WoltemadeTensions are very high between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich at the moment, but Woltemade is the most crucial acquisition the Bavarians can realistically make. Sure, he can play anywhere across the frontline and would be a nice asset to have on the roster this season, but the future is the key here. There is no indication that Harry Kane will remain past the end of the 2025/26 season (there is also no indication he will leave, either to be fair...it is very much up in the air), so Bayern Munich must be prepared for his exit. Woltemade would guarantee a succession plan and anything you get from him this season would be icing on the cake. Should Kane opt to extend his contract or just play out the end of his current deal (which ends in 2027), things could get complicated. However, if the club truly believes Woltemade will be a star, there will not be a better, less expensive time to get him. Shift focus from LFC’s Diaz to RB Leipzig’s SimonsLiverpool FC winger Luis Diaz is the favorite to land in Bavaria and his performance will likely determine the future employment status of Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl.Right now, this writer does not have enough confidence in Diaz to make a big investment in him. While not perfect, RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons is more versatile, is already well-versed in the culture of Germany and the Bundesliga, and just might be a better fit overall. The downside of Simons could be a questionable attitude or mentality, but being surrounded by an established core of veterans could help iron out any issues there.Give the kids a chancePaul Wanner and Lennart Karl are currently slated to be given an opportunity during the preseason. For Wanner, any attacking acquisitions might push him to seek out a loan, but Bayern Munich really needs to find a way to see where the kid is at in his development because right now, everything is iffy. As for Karl, he will reportedly get a chance to backup Michael Olise, which could be a great way to give the youngster minutes, while also reducing the wear-and-tear on the Frenchman. Sell! Sell! Sell!Part of Eberl’s big assignment for the summer is to get rid of some dead weight on the roster. The list is not that long, but it could be impactful: Kim Min-jae: The Korean defender has not yet fully asserted himself in Bavaria and — on the surface — it would be great to keep him as part of a three-man rotation at center-back. That scenario might not be amenable for the defender, though. Given that, Eberl has to find a trade partner, who can pay a big chunk of what the Bavarians paid for Min-jae just two summers ago. Daniel Peretz: The goalkeeper has little hope for playing time and a very limited future outlook in Bavaria. Whatever Bayern Munich can get for Peretz would be fine. Sacha Boey: Vincent Kompany might like the right-back, but his injury history and status as the third right-back on the depth chart makes him eminently expendable. Bayern Munich would take a big hit on the transfer fee as it will get nothing close to what it paid for him back in 2024 (€30 million). João Palhinha: The midfielder is more valuable to other clubs and does not have a future at Bayern Munich. It would be a quick turnaround, but this likely needs to happen. Bryan Zaragoza: No…

Liverpool Unveil New Signing Florian Wirtz Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images There were alignment issues at Bayern Munich... In an interview with Der Spiegel (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Hans Wirtz, the father of former Bayern Munich transfer target Florian Wirtz, detailed why his son ultimately opted to join Liverpool FC rather than Bayern Munich. As expected, there appeared to be some misalignment within Bayern Munich in what the plan was for Florian Wirtz: On the meetings with Uli Hoeneß and rumours about an agreement with Bayern.Wirtz: “I couldn’t give a commitment because Florian ultimately makes the decision. It was still open at the time. The situation with Bayern was difficult because Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made incredible efforts and also made a clear analysis of the sporting aspect. I have the greatest respect for Uli Hoeneß and his life’s work. After Florian’s ACL tear in 2022, he selflessly helped us quickly get an appointment for surgery in Innsbruck. We are still grateful to him for that. That’s why the final phone call with Uli Hoeneß was very difficult for me.”How did Hoeneß react?Wirtz: “We had spoken several times beforehand, so he was as objective and fair as I’d ever known him. But of course, he couldn’t hide his disappointment. After all, he had personally worked hard to bring about this transfer.”The “SZ” newspaper reported that a meeting with all the parties took place in Munich on Sunday, May 18. However, Vincent Kompany reportedly was unable to convince your son.Wirtz: “Vincent Kompany also had very good thoughts and ideas about how he wanted to integrate Florian into the FC Bayern team. In the end, it was a matter of details; the decision ultimately had to do with the different sporting situations and Florian’s role. Financially, there weren’t any major differences between the two clubs. Again, Bayern Munich really tried hard, but a decision had to be made. Florian saw the move abroad as a new personal and sporting challenge and therefore chose Liverpool FC . We all shared this view.”While it does not appear as if Kompany was necessarily poor with his sales pitch, it appears some of what the coach said might have differed from what Wirtz was told by other members of the Bayern Munich organization. A learning moment? Sure...just a very costly one. How good would it be to have Florian Wirtz right now?The careers of Liverpool FC’s Luis Diaz and Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl could end up intertwined if the transfer move goes through. Meanwhile, is the rest of the Bundesliga sick of being bullied by Bayern Munich and is the league bleeding too much talent? Also, Paul Wanner and Lennart Karl could be in line for opportunities during the preseason...can the youngster take advantage of those chances? Bayern Munich’s performance at the Club World Cup left some fans feeling unfulfilled. One of the reasons Bayern Munich did not make it further was because of struggles on the backline. Manchester City FC v Aston Villa FC - Premier League Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images Bayern Munich likes to get work done on Fridays...is today the day? Bayern still watching Rashford situation (CaughtOffside)Bayern Munich has many irons in the fire at the moment and one of them could still be Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford: Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been discussed as a target for Bayern Munich as they add him to their list of attacking targets for this summer.Multiple well-connected sources have confirmed to CaughtOffside that Rashford is on Bayern’s list after they previously missed out on the likes of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. One source with a close understanding of the situation told CaughtOffside that “Bayern Munich (are) now seen as one of the most serious contenders” for Rashford.Man Utd are expected to ask for around £40m to let the England international go, with Barcelona also previously keen on him, but with the deal now looking unaffordable for them.Of all the names on Bayern Munich’s list, this one feel like the biggest long and least serious. (Shrug emoji)This is always cool (@ESPNFC)There are few backdrops in football as awesome as this:FC Andorra will play in Spain's second division next season. But why? Let’s dig into how things are playing out and why Bayern Munich could be facing some tough times ahead. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:Luis Diaz is either onto make or break Max Eberl’s Bayern Munich career, isn’t he?Is the rest of the Bundesliga sick of being bullied by Bayern Munich? Is the league bleeding too much talent? After BPW called for it, will Paul Wanner finally get his chance? It looks like it. Lennart Karl could also get his big break. The father of Florian Wirtz talks through how the decision to join Liverpool played out. HBO screwed me this week…find out how and why!Chelsea thinking of player swap for Min-jae? (CaughtOffside) SWAP DEAL ALERT! You know we love us a good swap deal around these parts...Chelsea FC is reportedly a very big fan of Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae and could look to send back defender Renato Veiga to Bavaria in return: According to a report from Italian publication TMW, Chelsea could offer Renato Veiga in a deal to sign the 28-year-old. The South Korean could prove to be a very useful acquisition for Chelsea as they look to tighten up at the back ahead of the upcoming season. They were quite vulnerable defensively last season, and they need to improve in that area of the pitch. Improving defensively will help them for major trophies next season. There is no doubt that they have a quality squad, and they have recently won the Conference League and the Club World Cup. They will look to push for major trophies now. The South Korean could help them improve defensively.Zero shot this happens...Inter wants Donnarumma (Foot Mercato)Inter Milan would like Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the player’s agent tried to downplay the interest: When questioned by journalists, the agent of Parisian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, Vincenzo Raiola, was quick to dismiss the rumors concerning Donnarumma. “Donnarumma? Inter already has a goalkeeper, for the moment everything is calm ,” he assured in comments reported by Calciomercato . But we have absolutely not spoken about Gigio, it is not a subject today. There has never been any discussion with Inter, I have already said it several times. To this day, we are seeing other things regarding the youth teams, we are talking about how to organize the U23s…

SL Benfica v FC Bayern München: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Cory Knowlton/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images Will he stay or will he go? Bayern Munich defensive midfielder João Palhinha has not exactly had an easy time since moving from Fulham FC.While the Portuguese international seems to enjoy the club, his name has been bandied about in transfer rumors for months now. Despite all of that, the 30-year-old seems happy. “I have a contract with Bayern for another three years, so I’ll report back on the 29th, which is when we start pre-season. Enjoying these vacation days with family and friends is the most important thing right now,” Palhinha told Sport TV Portugal (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Regarding my future, as I’ve said several times, I have three more years on my contract, I don’t know what will happen, but I’m at a great club, as I’ve always said. Obviously, it hasn’t been an easy year for me, but I’m also very motivated to - as soon as the season starts - prove my worth once again, at a very special club like Bayern, a huge club.”For now, it seems as if Bayern Munich is solely focused on player acquisitions, but within weeks (or maybe even days), the club will attempt to start to sell some players...and Palhinha is expected to be one of them. Looking for more thoughts and discussion on Bayern Munich’s recent rejections with bids on on VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, plus some talk about the heat that Max Eberl and the fellas are facing — plus a discussion on why Nestory Irankunda might not have worked out and also why Bayern needs to be on high alert with Paul Wanner? According to a report from L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich really was taking a wild swing when trying to get Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola earlier this summer. How wild? Well, maybe so wild that it was a little misguided: Linked heavily to a potential move to Bayern over the past weeks, ‘there’s no world where Bradley Barcola would leave PSG this summer’. The winger and the French club are set for new contract talks in the coming weeks that could make him one of the top 5 highest paid players at PSG.On the surface, there is no harm with shooting for the stars, but the time spent on chasing Barcola might have been better used on more realistic targets. FC Bayern München v SC Freiburg - Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga Photo by EyesWideOpen/Getty Images Brewing up more than goals. Jovana Damnjanović always wanted to make it in Munich — but she didn’t have it easy.A move to the defending German champions fell through in 2013, but she persevered — finally arriving at Bayern Munich in 2017, where she has played striker for the FC Bayern Frauen ever since. And now? She’s expressing herself in another way, off the field: through espresso. Damnjanović has now opened up her own café, another lifelong dream, and talked to FCBayern.com about her journey:Jovana keeps breaking off from the conversation — she is happy to help when guests express their wishes. She’s in the café two to three times a week, more than that is harder during the busy weeks of the season, and she clearly enjoys working in service herself. Every bean that is consumed here “I roasted myself”, she explains. She currently drives to Mannheim, where she completed her training, every few weeks and fills the car with freshly roasted coffee. This is not a permanent situation, she says; she is looking for a location in Munich and clean supply chains are generally important to her. “You can only get good beans if the entire production chain is right,” she says. “If the people on the farms are doing well, if they are paid fairly, you end up with high-quality coffee.” She got to know many farmers personally. Thomas from Mexico writes on the bags: “For my footballer Jovi’. Such deep relationships show her that she’s doing things the right way.As for what is her own personal cup of tea — er, coffee? For those who have seen Damnjanović play, it should be no surprise she described it this way:“I would be a strong, flavoursome espresso, not a creative cappuccino. My style of play is hard-working, intense, with temperament, which suits a dark espresso with a lot of power.”The FCBayern.com article goes into much more depth and is worth a full read through. And if you’re ever in Munich, why not stop by and get some joe from Jo?

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Bayern Munich coach, Vincent Kompany, looks on during his sides FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match up against PSG at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on 5 July, 2025. | Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images The clock is ticking if Bayern want any new signings to feature in preseason. After crashing out of the FIFA Club World Cup following a 2-0 loss against eventual finalists Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich earned themselves a respite before their preseason kicks off.According to @iMiaSanMia, Bayern’s summer schedule officially gets underway on the 28th of July with the opening fixture taking place at the Allianz Arena on the 2nd of August against an Olympique Lyon side drowning in controversy after being momentarily relegated to Ligue 2:Bayern’s summer schedule:• 28 July: start of pre-season • 2 August: friendly against Lyon (H)• 7 August: friendly against Tottenham (H)• 12 August: friendly against Grasshopper Zürich (A)• 16 August: Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Stuttgart (A)• 22 August: Bundesliga MD1 against RB Leipzig (H)• 23 August: friendly against fan club “Red Eagles Austria”• 27 August: DFB Pokal first round against Wehen Wiesbaden (A)As a Bayern fan it is jarring that preseason starts in just under two weeks and the club is yet to make any additional signings despite the transfer window being open from the start of July as well as for the first ten days of June. Of course, the transfer window runs until the 1st of September. This gives Bayern ample time to add reinforcements, especially to the attack. However, the importance of having new signings ready and available for preseason cannot be understated. After all, a prepared team is a stronger team that is able to start the season on the front foot. As it stands, Bayern are very much set to start the season on the back foot following what quite frankly has been an extremely concerning display in the transfer market thus far.

La Masia - The Heart Of FC Barcelona’s Youth System Photo by Jasper Juinen/Getty Images Xavi Simons got his start with Barca... According to a report from Sport journalist Carlos Monfort (as captured by Barca Universal), FC Barcelona sporting director Deco held a meeting with RB Leipzig attacker and rumored Bayern Munich transfer target Xavi Simons: Barcelona sporting director Deco continues to work tirelessly to strengthen the squad in the ongoing transfer window. Things have gone quiet for the Blaugrana after the arrival of Joan Garcia, with Nico Williams pulling a last-minute U-turn and Luis Diaz’s pursuit not progressing either. Now, though, in a major update, SPORT’s Carlos Monfort reports that Barcelona director Deco met with the agents of RB Leipzig sensation Xavi Simons at midday today. Italian super-agent Ali Barat, despite not being Simons’ official representative, has significant influence in the Dutch player’s decision-making process. He attended the meeting alongside Faustino Simons, the player’s brother. The meeting, held in a Barcelona hotel, lasted around 45 minutes.Bringing Simons back to Camp Nou, where he played as a youth, will not be easy given FC Barcelona’s financial issues: However, given Barcelona’s current financial situation, the possibility of signing Simons is extremely remote, though this was the main topic discussed in the meeting. The 22-year-old’s price is currently well beyond the club’s reach, particularly considering Hansi Flick’s recent comments about the midfield being overcrowded. As such, the meeting between Deco and Simons’ camp was purely an exploratory move – an initial point of contact to express interest and maintain awareness of the player’s status in the market. Simons has a market value of €70 million and has made it clear to those close to him that he intends to leave RB Leipzig this summer. If Bayern Munich fails to get Luis Diaz or Nick Woltemade, it could shift its focus to Simons.
