💢Slang of the Day
⭕️ arse-lickingBritish and Australian English taboo!!!
👉Meaning : saying nice things to someone in order to get something from them
✴️ For example : 👇👇
🔸Does he really think all his arse-licking will mean the CEO will give him the promotion?
🔸Bosses say they don't like arse-licking, but I'm sure some of them quite enjoy being told how clever and wonderful they are.
‼️Note: The equivalent slang in American English is "ass-kissing".
Warning! This is very bad language. If you are a non-native speaker, you are advised not to use it. (You could cause resentment or anger if you use it inappropriately.)
👉Variety : This is typically used in British and Australian English but may be used in other varieties of English too.

⭕️Forms of address (title)
✴️ By: Paul Jan
👉In English there are many forms of address or titles such as:
🔸Sir (for a knight)
🔸Dr (for a medical doctor or a holder of a PhD doctorate)
‼️but the common forms of address are Mr, Mrs, Miss and Ms.
🔸 Mr for men
🔸Mrs, Miss and Ms for women.
‼️The first rule to know is that these titles should NEVER be used with the person's first name in the English speaking culture.
👉If my name is John Smith then you would call me:
🔸John
🔸Mr. Smith
🔸or Mr. John Smith
depending on the circumstances, but never Mr. John.❌
‼️When I visit India and other Eastern contries they call me Mr Paul, or, in Japan, they call me Paul san, this is them being polite in their culture. I don't have a problem with this, it's just not our way.
👉One exception to this rule is for Royalty and knights, or their wives, Sir John Smith and Lady Janet Smith, would be called Sir John and Lady Janet.
👩🏻For women the title depends on her marital status.
🔸Mrs is for a married woman.
🔸Miss is for a woman who is definitely single.
🔸Ms is used when there is uncertainty about her marital status.
‼️If my name was Janet Brown you would never call me Mrs Janet, or Miss Janet.❌
I would be Mrs, or Miss Brown, or even Mrs Janet Brown.✅
👉These titles tend to only be used in formal situations.
‼️Business customers are addressed using their title.
👉People in a more senior position to you may have to be referred to by their title.
‼️Students, particularly young students, may have to do the same with their teachers. In schools in the English speaking world teachers are called sir and miss. Even if a woman teacher is married she is still called miss.
✴️ Examples: 👇👇
🔸Is my answer correct sir?'
🔸May I go to the toilet miss?'.
‼️Outside schools the term 'sir' is only used in formal circumstances such as in business, it is used in lieu of their name.
‼️The Americans tend to use 'sir' more often than other English speaking countries.
👉For most of the time, in non-formal situations, we will only use the person's first name when addressing them.

⭕️My Number
🎤 by Foals
You don't have my number
We don't need each other now
We don't need the city
The creed or the culture now.
Cause I feel, I feel alive
I feel, I feel alive
I feel that the streets are all pulling me down.
So, people of the city
I don't need your counsel now
And I don't need your good advice
Cause you don't have my lover's touch
You don't have my number
We don't need each other now
The creed or the culture
We can move beyond it now.
Now the wolf is knocking at my door
Bang, bang, it asks for more.
Stand here, we stand tall
We can move beyond these walls.
I don't need your counsel
I don't need these city streets
And I don't need that good advice
Cause we can move beyond it now.
You don't have my number
We don't need each other now
The creed or the culture
You don't have my lover's touch.
Cause I feel, I feel alive
I feel, I feel alive
I feel the streets are not far from here.
Do you even hear me?
Do you even know my name?
Can you see the ocean there?
You don't have my lover's touch.
(You don't have my number, love.)
And I wonder, can you hear me?
And are you even listening now?
Cause you don't have my number
We don't need each other now.
You can't steal my thunder
Cause you don't have my lover's touch.
You don't have my number
And I don't need no one now
And I don't need the city streets
The creed or the culture now.
