🇸🇩🇦🇪 Sudan's booming wartime gold trade flows through the UAE
Sudan's gold industry has become the lifeblood of its war, with nearly all of the trade channelled through the United Arab Emirates, enriching both the army and paramilitaries, sources say.
The two-year conflict has decimated Sudan's economy, yet last month the army-backed government announced record gold production in 2024. Demand for the country's vast gold reserves was "a key factor in prolonging the war," Sudanese economist Abdelazim al-Amawy told AFP.

🇵🇱🎉🗳 Congratulations to Karol Nawrocki for winning in the 2025 Polish presidential elections!
Although Nawrocki being president won't replace the liberal pro-EU premier, Donald Tusk, from power, I will be considering Poland as a "sovereignist" country and expect its relations with Hungary and the Visegrad group to improve after this victory.
Tusk's Civic Coalition not having control over the Polish presidency also makes it more difficult for the EU to implement their projects and Hungary has won another veto partner in the European Council.
Next September, Parliamentary elections in Moldova may see the Action & Solidarity Party (PAS) lose majority and need a coalition to keep ruling. Moldova will not turn against the EU any time soon though, PAS will still win the most seats but not enough for a clear majority as the Moldovan opposition is quite incompetent as all opposition parties to PAS are social-democrat/leftist and all fight each other for the same voter base.
In October, Czechia is holding legislative elections and the rightwing ANO and SPD parties are expected to perform much better than in 2021 and the current pro-EU coalition is expected to lose the majority they have in the Czech Parliament. An ANO victory means the reactivation of the Visegrad Group, which has been dormant for the past 5 years.

🇬🇧A few days ago, General Michael Langley, commander of AFRICOM, defended his previous criticism of Burkina Faso's junta leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for failing to adequately "prioritize" the fight against terrorism.
Langley acknowledged that his previous comments could have been interpreted as exaggerated, but reiterated his concern about the African country's approach, which he believes is more focused on protecting itself than on confronting insurgent groups.
According to Langley, Burkina Faso—located at what he called "the epicenter of global terrorism"—has redirected resources such as gold exports toward protecting the regime, rather than effectively combating extremism.

🇧🇷🔍💥⚖️ — The president of Google in Brazil, Fábio Coelho, expressed concern about the direction of the trial on Article 19 of the Marco Civil da Internet (Brazil’s Internet Bill of Rights), currently underway at the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
➡️ According to him, the possible prior liability of platforms for user-generated content poses a threat to freedom of expression and creates legal uncertainty. He warned that essential content for democratic debate could be at risk, citing three particularly vulnerable areas: investigative journalism, humor, and electoral advertising.
“Platforms will have to preemptively remove any content that could potentially be questioned in order to avoid liability or financial penalties. Any investigative journalism piece could be taken down because some people may feel defamed. Humor is also at risk, as platforms might fear that satire could be misinterpreted as fact. Electoral content could also be removed, because during elections, platforms are pressured to take everything down.”
—❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷 NEW: Axios now reports that the most recent U.S. proposal to Iran did NOT include a demand for 'zero enrichment', stating that Iran would be allowed to enrich uranium at a limited rate for a period of time
If the Axios report is true, this is remarkable for two reasons:
1. It shows that the U.S. is willing to compromise on its 'red lines' regarding Iran's uranium enrichment.
2. Iran is reportedly drafting a rejection to this proposal DESPITE the fact that it would allow Iran to enrich uranium on its own soil.
Why would Iran reject it? —> Likely because the U.S. is still demanding that Iran's existing stockpile of uranium be moved abroad, which is another totally seperate issue that Iran considers unacceptable.

🇨🇫 In the Central African Republic gold mines have become the Wagner’s private preserve. At the Ndassima site alone, estimates suggest more than 200 billion CFA francs per year in gold extraction—funds that don't benefit the local population.
In Ydéré, gold and mercury are shipped out in tankers every week. In Boda, via the company Lobaye Invest, both gold and diamonds are being exploited. In Lobaye prefecture, valuable timber is also being extracted and shipped abroad.

🇺🇸🚢🇨🇳 Container shipping traffic from China to the US is plummeting:
The number of ships departing from China to the US over the last 15 days has dropped to its lowest since February.
Excluding the Chinese New Year-related decline in February, this is the lowest level in over a year.
Shipping volumes have declined by ~50% since mid-April as reciprocal tariffs began.
This is all despite the US-China 90-day tariff truce announced on May 12th.
The effective US tariff rate on China is above pre-April 2nd levels, at 33%.
US-China trade is coming to a halt.
