LaLiga president Javier Tebas remains firm in his intention to internationalise LaLiga by staging a league match in the USA.
Currently, the idea is still in its early stages, and few formal steps have been taken, but it aligns with Tebas’s vision.
A leading candidate for this venture is the match between Villarreal and Barça on MD 17, scheduled for the weekend of December 20–21, 2025, the final match-day of the calendar year.
Villarreal would be the home team.
Between December 15 and 21, there are no European competitions scheduled.
However, Copa del Rey Round of 32 matches are set to take place from December 16 to 18, with all top-tier clubs participating.
If the Miami match goes ahead, that Copa round may need to be rescheduled to allow Barça and Villarreal enough time to travel and acclimate.
