Either the security services have changed their view - which would be very odd - or Burnham is lying about what he has been told. After all Starmer was in power for two years and had access to exactly the same information.

❗️Penny Wong has accused crossbench senator Ralph Babet of backing “President Putin against Ukraine”, after Australia ruled out purchasing Russian diesel following Donald Trump’s new deal with the Kremlin.

Senator Babet on Tuesday sought to pressure the government over the US deal, including whether Australia had raised objections.

“I completely disagree with you and I do think that it is a shameful position,” she said.

“We will not be changing our position.”

Instead, Senator Wong lashed out at Senator Babet, noting his question was the first during question time in six months – the last being on the subject of Russia, also.

“ … people have been observing on Facebook and Instagram you’re your magical mystery tour,” she said.

“I did wonder if you’re actually overseas, maybe meeting with the people who manufacture your supposed Australia first merchandise – but, apparently you were just, holidaying in Europe.”

Senator Wong accused Senator Babet of wanting “to stand with President Putin against Ukraine”.
