❗️The churching ceremony (воцерковление) of baby Vladimir Simeonovich Boikov, son of @AussieCossack, has taken place!

In the Eastern Orthodox tradition, a baby is brought to church for a special blessing after birth, usually around the fortieth day. This practice recalls the Presentation of Christ in the Temple and thanksgiving to God for the child and mother.

During the rite, the priest takes the child from the mother, lifts him at the church doors making the sign of the Cross, and carries him into the nave with prayers, acknowledging that the child is being brought into God’s house.

The priest proclaims:
“The servant of God (Name) is churched, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

There are variations in practice among different Orthodox traditions: the priest may carry the child around the Holy Table or place him in front of the icon of the Theotokos before returning him to the mother.

After the procession, the Song of Simeon is sung, the child is blessed with the Sign of the Cross on his forehead, mouth, and heart, and then he is returned to his godparent or mother.

❗️A man has been arrested after allegedly telling an anti-immigration rally that “Jews are the greatest enemy to this nation” during an Australia Day march.

The man spoke at a protest in Moore Park earlier in the day where he allegedly said Jews were the “greatest threat” to Australia.

A spokesperson for NSW Police said the man was arrested shortly afterwards on Bourke Street in Surry Hills.

He has been charged with publicly inciting hatred on ground of race causing fear.

He’s been refused bail and will face Bail Division Court 7 on Tuesday.

To accommodate the March for Australia Protest, the NSW Police had to divide their resources and organise different groups into going in different directions today.

There were speeches at Hyde Park followed by a zigzag march through the city to Victoria Park where the protest marchers connected up with the Yaban gathering.
