Суд заслушал показания о том, как 40-летний мужчина в прошлом месяце протаранил на машине главные ворота Генерального консульства Российской Федерации в Вуллахре, причинив «значительный ущерб» и ранив двух полицейских.

Он также сообщил суду, что Абрахаму прописали лекарство от шизофрении.

«Ему повезло, что он смог уйти от ответственности в нынешнем политическом климате», — сказал судья Дейлли.

❗️An Australian man who was working for a US-based defence and cyber intelligence contractor has been accused of selling information to a Russian buyer.

Multiple sources have told the ABC the accused man used to work for the Australian Signals Directorate, the national intelligence agency responsible for cyber security.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) spokesperson said it was "aware of a Department of Justice investigation in relation to an Australian in Washington DC in these circumstances".

"We stand ready to offer consular assistance should it be requested," they said.

❗️Rimi Abraham, originally from Victoria, was convicted and sentenced to eight months in jail with a non-parole period of four months, along with several community correction orders in Newtown Local Court on Wednesday.

Abraham was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with 10 offences including entering enclosed land, damaging property, resisting arrest and custody of a knife in a public place.

"This was not a hate crime or terrorism, but rather a mistaken belief out of mental health issues."

The court heard from Abraham's lawyer Evan James his client had tried to "seek asylum" at the Russian consulate.

"He accepts the need for punishment and has asked for justice with mercy," Mr James said.

"He was lucky to have walked away in the political climate we have now," Magistrate Dailly said.

According to the Union of Orthodox Journalists, he was kept inside the security service building until midnight. The clergyman is in poor health and requires surgery, yet after hours of interrogation he was driven to a hospital — only to receive a medical report claiming he was “healthy.”

Then, at two in the morning, Arseny was brought back to the SBU and left waiting until 4 a.m. before being returned to the detention center. This morning, a new measure of restraint will be chosen.

The metropolitan has been behind bars since April 25, 2024. Kiev accuses him of passing information to Russia about Ukrainian army positions. Patriarch Kirill earlier called the grounds for his arrest “fabricated.”
